Did anyone see this? So much unseen footage of the Queen's early years. I found it fascinating, especially the Queen's voice over (some edited together from her speeches and her recent voice over for the Platinum Jubilee).

I must put out my bunting!

It was shown on BBC1 last night so should be on iPlayer

Thank you.

@Maireas I think I saw an interviewing Princess Margaret who said it was a shock. As he was so much better. Plus they'd have never sent Elizabeth ok tour had they thought he was dying.

SweetMystery · 30/05/2022 23:52

I loved it! I especially liked her commentary (recorded in the past and the present).
I was wondering if there was a part 2 though. Edward and Andrew have been erased! It ended before they were born.
Princess Anne was a great baby - really smiley!

I think it just went up to her coronation

Yes it was obviously sudden. I'm only repeating what his Private Secretary said.

I'm hoping there's a part two, there must be lots of footage left.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/05/2022 07:08

It was so worth watching

Georgieporgie29 · 01/06/2022 09:09

Thoroughly enjoyed this, thank you for the recommendation. Watched it with my 11 year old. The queen and her sister seemed to have such a lovely relationship with their parents.

balalake · 01/06/2022 20:02

The relationship with mum and dad (George VI and the Queen Mother (as we knew her)) really stood out for me.

Inkanta · 01/06/2022 20:09

Yes I think Elizabeth had very loving and attentive parents and as a couple they had a few good years together before duty called.

FawnFrenchieMum · 02/06/2022 18:54

I love how her & Margaret always have the same clothes on.

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 02/06/2022 19:08

I enjoyed it too, especially the footage of the queen and her sister as small children, with lots of very normal energy and mischief. I also loved seeing her father playing with the children; it seemed so modern and universal, despite being nearly a century ago. Fascinating as a piece of social history, however you feel about the monarchy.

It was interesting wasn't it?

Prince Charles!-what a sweetie!

Thought that George was quite like him when younger.

They all seemed so happy-even with "Uncle David".
