'Lazarus' - sequel to Life On Mars/Ashes to Ashes - anyone want to speculate?

Really excited to hear a sequel is in production and wondered if anyone wanted to speculate about content (or even if anyone has any sneaky inside info!).

What we know so far:

It's going to be set in the 1970s, the 1980s and an alternative present day.
John Simm, Philip Glenister and Dean Andrews will be in it
The settings will include London and Manchester

I am hoping it will 'complete' Gene Hunt's story and show us the ending to Sam Tyler's (because he'd already 'gone to the pub' in Ashes to Ashes but we didn't really know what he'd done to earn that).

Possibly a niche thread and fully resigned to getting no replies but dying to discuss this with someone and don't know any other fans in real life!

Ive known this for a good while but wanted to find a link. Marshall Lancaster (Chris) has given up acting.
Marshall Lancaster as Chris Skelton (Image: BBC)
Best known for his role in Life On Mars and follow-up Ashes To Ashes, the actor has also appeared in television dramas including Coronation Street, Holby City, The Lakes and Family Affairs.
In January 2013 he started his own construction company, Marshall Lancaster Plastering, and works as a contractor in Macclesfield and surrounding areas after giving up acting.

I had not heard of this, I'm excited now.

Marshall Lancaster (Chris) has given up acting.

Oh, that's a shame. I suppose there is more money and security in running a successful business than in the more uncertain world of acting.

Thanks for the heads up, I hadn't heard of this either. I was a LOM fan & went on a weekend organised by The Railway Arms fan forum not long after the series. We even had people from the US joining us! We toured filming locations & ended with a '70s themed party* at the BBC on Oxford Road (now demolished & moved to Salford). They had the little Trumpton-style models used in one of the trailers as a centrepiece. Will see if I can dig out a pic.

  • the buffet had 'oops. 😄
Antarcticant · 16/05/2022 14:55

That sounds great!

Glad there were 'oops! Were there any Garibaldis or perhaps a hedgehog and some Blue Nun a la the swingers party in series 2?

Hmm....🤔 bit conflicted about this, would rather see Keeley Hawes than John Simm, he (Sam) married Annie and put his car into a river in pursuit of a criminal, mind you his body was never found, so am I going to be looking at him and seeing Bobby Ewing.....Grin

Get in!

The 'oops were actually Hula Hoops but still in keeping with the era. Natch there were garibaldis & a cheese & onion/hotdog hedgehog! I can't remember the drinks that well, I think Mateus ...

Lellochip · 16/05/2022 16:01

Oh no, do we know for certain Keeley's not coming back? I'm still emotionally recovering from the end of Ashes, was assuming desperately hoping we'd be getting Bolly & the guv back together 💔

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 18/05/2022 23:19

Does anyone have any concrete information that it's definitely in production? This is all I could find. The link just says a pilot has been written but not commissioned by any broadcaster.

Lellochip · 19/05/2022 08:32

Not seen anything to say it's starting production, but the cast and writers are definitely lunching and teasing on Twitter so that's got to be a good sign? 😄

Don't know how imminent actual filming and release would be though

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 19/05/2022 22:36

Excited by this - must watch LOM and A2A again!!!

GreenClock · 21/05/2022 23:32

I loved LoM and ATA but can’t recall much. I only remember the actor who played Steph Barnes in Corrie (and appearing currently in Gentleman Jack) playing a lawyer who was Keely’s character’s mum.

feedingfrenzyatfive · 10/06/2022 16:44

That's brilliant, loved both series and glad that it'll be back at some point.

Genehuntsfanclub · 10/06/2022 16:49

Fantastic news! What more can I say.😁
