Has anyone seen Hidden? It's a Welsh police drama, and I thoroughly recommend it. There's 3 series, and I have just binged the first two.

The girl in the second series, Mia, absolutely blew me away. Such superb acting.

Anyway, you're in for a treat if you haven't already had the pleasure (and no, I don't work for the BBC Grin).

Yes we love Cadi here.

craggyrat · 14/04/2022 08:10

Big fans here too

mycatisannoying · 14/04/2022 08:12

Brilliant! I love it too.

Yep a massive fan here as well

tiredanddangerous · 14/04/2022 08:19

Yes! I haven't started the new series yet though. Planning a binge over Easter weekend.

mycatisannoying · 14/04/2022 08:37

Can't believe I hadn't heard of it until a couple of days ago, and even then only because I stumbled upon it on iplayer.

Started series 3 today. I don't find it as good or as gripping as the previous two. Series one in particular was my favourite.

Does anyone else find this series relentlessly miserable? As phenomenonal as the acting is, there aren't many moments of light relief or hopefulness.

midsomermurderess · 26/04/2022 12:31

I found it quite miserable too, miserable and drab. Rural Wales seems often to be portrayed as some sort of scary, red-neck backwater that you would drive through praying that your car doesn’t break down else It would go all full-on Deliverance. Hinterland has a similar feel.

mycatisannoying · 26/04/2022 19:05

I loved it (the third series with the two bothers, less so) but yeah, it ain't cheery or glam!

I just finished S3. What a brilliant show. Very dark though!

DameHelena · 28/04/2022 15:31

I'm on S3 at the mo. I like Cadi and I love the family home. It IS quite grim, but I think it's interesting how it examines rural poverty, lack of opportunity etc.
I do prefer Hinterland, I have to say. It has the edge IMO in production values and art design, or whatever you call it. It's so beautiful to watch.

I disagree. I think they show some lovely views.

Same director for both I think.
It's really interesting that you think it's about rural poverty. I didn't see it like that at all as there were all kinds and classes of people.

I didn't know it was the same director.

I didn't say it's about rural poverty ie exclusively about that. And I said it looks at lack of opportunity, which I think is accurate.
By rural poverty I suppose you could say I mean issues specific to rural and ex-industrial areas: changes in community make-up (like the issue of Polish immigrants in the current story), thinness on the ground of work for people who do building/labouring, like Sion, the issues that come with farming and questions of who do you pass the legacy to, what happens when people treat that legacy differently, what do you actually have to show for all those years on the land etc.

I loved the first two series of this, but haven't come back to it after watching the first two episodes of series 3. I might have to give it another try! I holiday a lot in North Wales and it's interesting to see how a different side of the area is portrayed.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/07/2022 06:23

nervous about searching for this programme on here in case it was a flop, just started it yesterday

Downunderduchess · 07/01/2023 11:11

I just finished watching series 3. I want to know what was on the post it note she left on her partner’s desk at the end. Anyone?

mydogisthebest · 07/01/2023 19:45

I enjoyed it but it is depressing. Also just about all the houses are so dark and drab with the most awful wallpaper and furniture

smooththecat · 07/01/2023 19:46

OMG a new series?

Series 3 isn't new. I presume the pp is watching catch up.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 26/09/2023 10:39

Is there an earlier thread about this? I've just watched the first series and am

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 26/09/2023 10:40

On to the second. Finding it slow in places and I can't say the characters are very appealing Rhodri Meilr (so?)was amazing though.
On the back of hinterland I've come on to this and started learning Welsh.
