Anyone have a solution to the "paralysed by too much choice and usually end up watching an old favourite anyway" thing? Just me?

There's very little on terrestrial tv that appeals to me these days

I have at the moment prime, Netflix and nowtv enternmtainment packages but may drop the nowtv one soon due to price (I went to quit a few months back and got offered a good deal so stuck with it but when the price goes back up I'll quit I think, may do disney+ using clubcard vouchers?)

Anyway, another sat night home alone (yep I know how to rock and roll! Grin)

And I feel like of a weekend I'd like to watch a good movie or start a new series but I scroll and scroll and eventually just end up watching old favourites on repeat! Film and tv

Anyone have a solution for this feeling/mood? Is it only me that experiences it am I just plain weird?!

Write a list, (MN is always happy to help) and put it by the telly. Stick to it.

SisterMichael · 09/04/2022 21:24

Yes! Me too. I just get overwhelmed. Definite first world problems Grin

smurfmonkey · 09/04/2022 21:38

If you're weird I'm joining your gang... Sometimes it's just too much choice. Maybe lose two of the packages and just keep one to start off with? That may help narrow it down.

But yeah I scroll through Netflix and then watch a film I've seen a thousand times before Grin

Graphista · 09/04/2022 21:42

Oh absolutely first world problems!

Just drives me nuts! It's myself driving me nuts!

I have looooong watchlists of things I want to watch...and things I think I "should" watch!

The latter being award winning, critically acclaimed, "worthy" stuff - sometimes I watch such things and love them, sometimes they bore me to tears!

I'm also at a stage in my life where there's been a lot of change forced on me, but I'm trying to view in a positive way and may actually help me long term but it wasn't my choice. Which is why I think I'm on a huge "comfort viewing" binge! I watched "Friends" recently like 4 times the whole lot! Cos I couldn't cope with anything remotely "new" and unfamiliar.

But I'm gradually coming outta that period now

@BattledoreAndShuttlecock sometimes I'll make myself watch the first thing on my watchlist that I haven't seen yet, sometimes it pans out sometimes it doesn't

But it feels like a real effort!

I feel like I'm silly to not do this more as I've come across some real gems doing this - but yea some real turkeys too!

Yep that's me!

Then I watch it SO much I kinda sicken myself of it?

Tonight I can't even decide on a bloody genre!

I've got "eat pray love" on just now - which I know is a bit of a marmite choice on mn - I quite like it but then I can tend to the hippy dippy in taste anyway at times

What does annoy me (and I need to sort the practicalities of this) is at the moment I can't do anything with subtitles simply as I have worsening eyesight and struggle to read them

Yeah I've seen Eat, Pay, Love A LOT Grin

MrsBDarcey · 09/04/2022 21:55

I can't even be arsed choosing tonight so am in bed, turning light out shortly !
I like the list idea so the "menu" is restricted?

Graphista · 09/04/2022 21:55

Oh god it's the film that labels those of who can't bloody choose films! Grin

I wanna watch something "fun" but not necessarily a comedy (I'm very very difficult to please comedy wise, I don't like what others like I tend more to the sardonic, cynical side of humour and black comedy, engaging but not too mentally challenging, inspiring but not insipid...

I sit down.for a couple hours to watch something, spend too long deciding what too watch and run out of time to watch it..

Normally it's like 10pm and I want to watch a film.. start out thinking:
"Bed at 12 so a couple hours..."
Then at 10.15
"Hmm an hour and 45 movie I guess..
10.30
"Any 90 minite movies?"

10.45,
"Fuck it, music on YouTube.."

carefullycourageous · 09/04/2022 22:01

The only solution I have found is to choose in advance, before I am tired.

I have started just watching whatever is on live to avoid the indecision.

I do this too! When dd still lived at home and we had film nights together it would drive HER nuts!

Except

10.45,
"Fuck it, music on YouTube.."

1045
Fuck it, Friends, Charmed, criminal minds AGAIN

@carefullycourageous very rarely anything on live that I like so few decent shows on terrestrial now

There is always Midsomer Murders; not too gory, lovely houses and Bergerac!
