What other programmes will I like on Netflix and Prime please (don't have Iplayer)?

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

I'm looking for a crime series without the usual masculine clichés and tropes ...

I was hoping you were going to tell me to watch something! I loved both.

Eachdaygoesby · 30/03/2022 08:18

Oh sorry Imnoteatingtha Smile

LS is such a great actress but it's actually more the same sort of genre of series I am looking for! I am getting so sick of all the usual streamed ensemble police detective series with macho blokes and tough posturing. I am more interested in police dramas written by women and just wondered if anyone had any suggestions ... .

Hidden is good - I enjoyed it although it’s dark . Quote from wiki - Leading actress Sian Reese-Williams commented that the series was more of a "personal drama" than a crime series, because of the multiple human stories involved, including those of the victims, the families of the victims, and the criminal protagonist.[3] The format concentrates on "why" rather than "who" committed the crime

Another one with a male lead but I enjoyed similar vibe - Hinterland.

Mare of East town ( Kate Winslett is fantastic)

Strike - again a male lead but story led drama.

Unforgotten - Nicola Walker stars in this and it’s brilliant.

The Fall - very gritty. Gillian Anderson.

I am watching to see if anyone suggests anymore - I enjoyed the ones you have suggested OP

Oh forgot Happy Valley! .

Waterfallgirl · 30/03/2022 13:48

I assume you mean AfterLife with LS?

MissyB1 · 30/03/2022 13:53

Definitely “Unforgotten” an all time favourite of mine!
And yes to Mare of East town.

umberellaonesie · 30/03/2022 14:00

Coroner it's a Canadian drama
Equaliser, but far fetched but ok

irregularegular · 30/03/2022 14:01

I was going to say "unforgotten" too. It is interesting because it focuses on the impact of a crime on family, friends and others involved, many years later. Also the personal life of the (very relatable) detectives.

No Offence

The Bay

Eachdaygoesby · 30/03/2022 16:47

I really appreciate all of these suggestions thank you so much, need some diversion in my life right now, so I'm very grateful for the recommendations.

Waterfallgirl I'm not sure, wouldn't be surprised if I have become muddled! Smile Is that the one where Robson Green is the detective and LS is the medium called Alison?

And thank you for your long list; can't wait to get stuck in. I love Kate Winslet so I will check out Mare of East Town first.

Noted about 'Unforgotten'!

Will try them all though; thank you again everybody!

Shakespeare and Hathaway - I know it’s on iplayer, not sure about Netflix and prime

Juliet Bravo - old (very old!) - has female chief police lead

Prime suspect - written by Lynda la plant (again, an older series)

The Sculptress, starring Pauline Quirke, based on a book written by Minette Walters (won a BAFTA for best actress)

Eachdaygoesby · 30/03/2022 18:33

Thanks *Riverlee , I think I have seen bits of Shakespeare and Hathaway on BBC world or whatever it's called. Not keen on it tbh or Midsomer Murders or Death in Paradise or Father Brown or any of those sorts of "cosy" detective dramas. I absolutely loved Prime Suspect though! Grin. Really skilful acting from Helen Mirren. I can't remember Juliet Bravo but I know I watched some of it when it was broadcast originally (showing my age!) Smile. I sometimes watch Vera but it hasn't grabbed me for some reason.

Will look out for The Sculptress, thank you!

The other girl. may be on iplayer still. brilliant.

midsomermurderess · 30/03/2022 19:00

River with Stellan Skarsgård and Nicola Walker. BC or Netflix, not sure which.

midsomermurderess · 30/03/2022 19:14

It's in Britbox.

MisguidedSheep · 30/03/2022 19:46

Prime Suspect 1973 is worth a watch.....it's the story of Jane Tennison's early days in uniform. Not as good as the original Prime Suspects but still a good way to pass a few hours.

Beck (Swedish detective series) on iPlayer is good. Also, Dicta:Crime Reporter (Danish crime story) is worth a watch, think it might be channel 4 on demand series.

MisguidedSheep · 30/03/2022 19:49

Sorry.....just seen you've not got IPlayer.....Beck is on Amazon

Clymene · 30/03/2022 19:56

Unbelievable with Toni Collette is fantastic. It's on Netflix I think

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/03/2022 20:37

Oh wow, loads more suggestions, thank you very much for all of them.

I love Toni Collette! She's an amazing actress! Scold's Bridle is an interesting title too.

In fact they all sound very intriguing, I will try every one, thanks again And it's really good to have a list to work through!
