SATC, Big is just awful!

I am binge watching Sex & The City from the start, and while wasn't a fan of Big the first time around, he is bugging the hell out of me this time!

In an episode I just watched (near end of episode 3) where Carrie met him and they fell into water and were drying off back in Big's flat and sitting on his bed talking. He asked Carrie very patronisingly "how r ya doing kid?". If any ex (or anyone for that matter) addressed me as 'kid', I'd want to slap them .

It's just a turn of phrase. I always liked Big over that PA Pratt Aidan and the godawful Berger.

Berger was spiteful.
Aidan should either have forgiven Carrie, or left, not tortured her.
Big was the best of a bad lot.

Note: not taking into account Chris Noth's behaviour - I suspect he is a rotter.

Yep I know it's just a phrase that's used, but still made me cringe and sounded patronising. I disagree about Aidan, but totally agree about Berger. I prefer Big to.him, and that's saying something.

I recently re-watched too. Whilst i used to think Big was awful, i had new sympathy for him this time around

I can see how she pushed and pushed him away in the early days.

Although when i watched it (religiously) in my 20s, I didn't know Big would eventually commit to her

Now we have a different perspective

I want to rewatch! I can only find it on Amazon Prime and expensive to buy all of the series. Where are you rewatching?

It's just a term of Endearment.

I used to quite like it when XP called me kiddo, even though I was 4 years older than him! He also called me babe/bubba, beautiful and very occasionally my actual name!

I thought Big was supposed to be a slightly patronising/paternal figure. We never saw Carrie’s parents if I recall, or any family really. We saw other characters’ families - Miranda’s mum dying, and Steve’s mum living with them, Trey’s mum etc. but Carrie was always a bit untethered in that way so I can see why she fell for someone a bit fatherly.

And I always heard it in a kind of “here’s looking at you kid” style.
