Anyone watched?

Was mostly a teeny bit bored - but then surprisingly scared. Perhaps it takes itself too seriously. Grandiose ambition and high stakes (inevitably) but some laughable dialogue and stilted acting.

But I watched all of S1 … Hmm

One viewer - in the entire MN universe? Grin

Two
I'm just not sure how I feel about the episode I think i need to watch it again

ChangingStates · 05/03/2022 07:52

I watched season 1 and quite enjoyed- will have a go at season 2, although your posts aren't filling me with enthusiasm!
Have you seen the most recent Discovery season? I enjoyed the previous ones but am annoyed I can't get it without paying and not sure if it's worth paying for.

TottersBlankly · 05/03/2022 08:03

Discovery?

Would that be S4? I’ve lost track. The synopsis of Ep1 seems familiar but not the rest. Beautiful show, (far more satisfying than Picard,) and got me through lockdowns. But it has all rather merged into one now. I was longing for a new series but have no idea which one is new!

Yes season 4, it's on something called Pluto tv which I downloaded and couldn't figure out. Can but it on apple or prime.

Can recommend Foundation on Apple TV+ subscription if you are into sci if- I thought it was great!

ChangingStates · 05/03/2022 08:25

Can buy it, not but it Hmm

TottersBlankly · 05/03/2022 08:28

Nah - Foundation was woeful! Dreadful waste of money. Miscast, vainglorious, trite, silly …

And I’m not sure whether Foundation ripped off Dune or vice versa - but I’ve seen way too much sand and too many be-robed royal personages lately.

Right. Have bought Discovery 4,1 - thanks for the tip! Star

(Can’t understand how I didn’t notice it was available - completely addicted.)

Ha! You've given me the push I need to do the same. Enjoy

TottersBlankly · 05/03/2022 18:06

Have watched 2 episodes of Discovery S4. How do they manage to get things so right on this show? It’s just naturally entertaining and absorbing - whereas Picard is ponderous and try-hard.

I do notice that Discovery is mostly populated by younger people whereas Picard has an unusually high proportion of mature souls - which is something I like about it. So it’s not that. Just the writing and direction. And the pontification.

I am watching Grin

I found the first few episodes on Picard Season 1 slow going but it got better, especially once Seven arrived. I found the first ep of S2 slow but ep 2 is better. The Borg Queen is clearly scheming away madly and I was really shocked that Q hit Picard. I still cannot work out why this is happening (time change) but am sure there will be a slow reveal.

It is a joy to see Seven again and I am hoping for a cameo from Janeway or The Doctor.

species5618 · 16/03/2022 13:48

I said this on the other thread, but I feel poor Patrick is looking and sounding a bit -old- weary.
Looking forward to May and the arrival of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

TottersBlankly · 16/03/2022 13:53

Oh? Haven’t heard of that. Is it any sort of continuation of Discovery? (Which I still found ridiculously addictive all through S4.)

OP posts:
TottersBlankly · 16/03/2022 13:55

I know I started this thread - but I’d have to be very bored before I return to Picard. Even with the promise of Borg adventure.

Discovery started well then lost itself in all it's woke, self righteous identity bullshit.

I was disappointed in the ending of the first series of Picard. After watching the first 2 episodes of this one I am not getting it at all. It makes no sense yet. Q became a very different character during Voyager and his son grew up seeing humans as family. Also 7 knew him personally what with Q junior being echebs best mate.

Are we meant to believe he's now suffering some sort of omnipotent dementia?
It was Q who brought the Borg to the alpha quadrant. Q who was responsible for the death of Quinans people. Is he projecting?

I can also see Agnes becoming a borg queen. Perhaps even the new one from episode one. Her entire life is dedicated to robotics. You can see the Borg queen manipulating her already.

TottersBlankly · 16/03/2022 14:40

all it's woke, self righteous identity bullshit

Strangely I didn’t notice anything like that …

I did find many of the characters individually intriguing and entertaining*. Michael, as moral fulcrum, was possibly the least interesting, despite her complicated and traumatic background. I particularly love Reno and Oladejo. And Adira should eventually become cool.

*Deep Space Nine was the only other I felt this about.

Link to new Star Trek Strange New World

UK release date still not confirmed apparently Sad

TottersBlankly · 19/03/2022 05:52

Thanks for that, species5618! So disappointing though - they’ve picked my least favourite characters for the new show.

Meanwhile … Not bored but needing mindless distraction, I watched episodes 2 and 3 of Picard. Must admit I’m finding the Borg Queen highly entertaining! Must be a fun part to play. And I almost cheered at the (annoyingly probably temporary) demise of Elnor - who can’t act and has been cringingly embarrassing to watch. I wouldn’t mind if Agnes is eventually lost to assimilation …

Just been introduced to Picard as partner is a fan. Convoluted nonsense to the uninitiated I reckon! Quite entertaining for all that, but I do spend every episode without much of a clue about what is actually going on. Better than that Discovery shit though - can’t stand that Michael woman!

Theunamedcat · 22/03/2022 20:03

I'm unable to get into this sadly

KatherineJaneway · 23/03/2022 05:28

I found the first series of Picard similar to the second, waiting quite a while to find out what is going on. I liked Seven's subtle ways of realising what it might have been like not to have been Borg but more of this is needed.

I thought Jurati and the Borg Queen was great.

lookthisway · 16/04/2022 00:56

Just seen the latest episode of Picard and I find the whole series really underwhelming so far apart from the first episode which promised so much! I enjoyed the first series and loved the latest series of DIscovery so am quite disappointed. I am pretty annoyed they've spent so much time in the present day and the dull love stories feel like filler. I am sure the Borg Queen storyline will eventually improve things well I hope so anyway.....

TottersBlankly · 16/04/2022 11:47

Grin Had completely forgotten this thread!

Yes … They really have over complicated things. Watched yesterday’s effort … Honestly, I don’t give a fig for the inside of Picard’s head and don’t welcome all the interminable twaddle we’re having to endure. It’s Star Trek, not frigging Memory Trek!

More Borg needed.

Hmm
