Charlotte Church Dream Build

Has anyone watched this? We ended up watching it last night. I don't know how far into the series it is, so I've probably missed a lot.

It was hilarious and had DH and I laughing throughout. I did wonder if it's supposed to be a spoof documentary? I've always quite liked Charlotte Church but she's gone very new age and seems to be channelling Edina Monsoon, and her interior designers were straight out of Ab Fab. Watching them decorating, dressed up like Peruvian pan pipers in oversized ponchos and big hats was comedy gold. And then the room makeover - that was baffling. There were some nice features but the abiding impression was of a hotel laundry - loads of frilly muslin sheets (organic, recycled etc etc) hanging from the ceiling. Just the thought of the dust they'd collect had me reaching for my inhaler.

Anyone else watching it? Is it always so bonkers?

This sounds spectacular. Where can one view it?

We were chanel hopping - not sure what chanel we were watching. Could have been "Really". Maybe I dreamt it? That would make more sense!

I stumbled across the programme yesterday evening too. What a wondrous house. Such a shame about the loss of that huge tree in the grounds that blew down.

Good luck to her.

PliqueAjour · 02/03/2022 14:56

Yes, absolutely stunning house set within a breathtaking landscape. My dream house really. I presume she gets retrospective planning permission during the series. It's a big risk to have done all of that work with no planning permission!

I think the house was originally owned by Laura Ashley or someone?

ZosieTatien · 02/03/2022 16:59

Yes, it was previously owned by Laura Ashley. It's in Powys, Mid Wales.

Binglebong · 02/03/2022 17:36

Looks like it's on Really. Sadly ep 1 is no longer available.

CommonPrimrose · 02/03/2022 17:41

I stumbled upon this and really enjoyed it.

However the designer and her assistant were comedy gold.
I liked most of the interior design but yes I did wonder at the dust catchers too.

Also did they need more pebbles for the outdoor shower or was there an empty bit left on purpose?

PliqueAjour · 02/03/2022 17:59

I thought the pebble path looked unfinished, and detracted from the natural beauty of the waterfall.

Is anybody watching series 2? The more I see, the more I notice similarities between Charlotte and me (apart from the singing talent, wealth and owning a mahoosive house in the Welsh countryside <sigh>) I love that shes connecting it all to nature. Id go and stay if I could afford it, and be ok at sharing a room with a stranger!

Ragwort · 22/10/2022 18:54

I used to work for Laura Ashley and actually stayed there when it was owned by the family, lovely memories.

I will watch it, on catchup, when I can. I have a lot of time for Charlotte Church and I really hope she makes a success of her new venture. She was under a lot of pressure as a child and left home at 16 to get some space and independence. Her relationship with her mother, who suffers from bi polar disorder, is a complex one.

I must check this out! I like Charlotte Church, I met her a few times through friends and she’s a good’un.
