10 min eps on iPlayer. I watched it all last week and really enjoyed it. Funny and quite sad and dark. I loved the characters. Wish I hadn't watched it all quite so quickly!

@harrumphs it did !!!

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 26/02/2022 13:49

I’m intrigued after seeing it on gogglebox. The vase incident looked so funny!

AntAndDecking · 26/02/2022 19:21

I wanted to like this and like 2 of the actors but I thought the other 2 were awful! I think the American accent wasn’t good and the blonde actress was poor too.

MenopauseSucks · 26/02/2022 21:03

Brilliant but Jack Fox looks so similar to his brother Lawrence, it was confusing.
The blonde actress was very irritating.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/02/2022 00:43

I watched the lot and loved it! Not sure why Jack Fox had to be American, found it a bit distracting, otherwise it was excellent. Series 2 must be in the pipeline.

Mediumred · 27/02/2022 02:30

Ha, on about episode 7, I like Esther, (the blonde one) she’s spacey and fun so far (same actress was recently in Rules of the Game on BBC1 with Maxine Peake) and it’s not Jack Fox’s fault he looks like his daft brother Laurence Fox. I’m enjoying all four leads and the funny, daring script and direction, thanks for starting a thread!

I like the 10 minute episodes, I think this works better than State of the Union’s short episodes, where Chris O’Dowd and Rosamund Pike were having marriage counselling, I found her quite mannered, although she is a great actor, and their relationship didn’t seem realistic.

This is less stagey, although again I don’t know if Fola and Zack would have been together in real life, esp with his ED. Josh and Esther seem more realistic but maybe not as teen sweethearts years later? Ha dunno, you can see I’m quite invested in it!

I think they were perfectly casted - Fola & Zack visually look like a lot of the couple's you see on social media. Wasn't the story arc that his ED manifested after they got wed?

I really enjoyed State of the Union, the concept of the moments pre therapy sessions was just right. They've made a second season with Brendan Gleeson and Patricia Clarkson, I'm frustrated that it's only available in USA.

AntAndDecking · 27/02/2022 11:58

That’s interesting, though I agree on Rosamund Pike I much preferred State of the Union. That’s a shame about the second season.

Josh and Esther seem like they probably should have split as teenagers, they seem to have nothing in common. Also the perennial question in TV, how do they afford those London houses?

FairyLightAddict · 27/02/2022 13:20

I really enjoyed it. No way could they afford their houses.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/02/2022 14:01

Why couldn't they afford their houses? It doesn't specify what they earn.

AntAndDecking · 27/02/2022 18:22

I suppose but Esther is a PE teacher and Josh works in a studio, but doesn’t seem like the kind of role with £££. They look like houses rather than flats and are probably several million. I suppose family money is possible otherwise it just seems unrealistic.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/02/2022 22:51

I though Josh and Esther were in a flat, the other couple just had an air of 'loaded with no kids' about them Grin

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/02/2022 22:51

SE London, expensive but not several million.

FAQs · 27/02/2022 22:58

I think Josh owns the studio? It was bonkers but fun and I thought the cast were great and well suited.

PrinzessinCressida · 27/02/2022 23:21

I just finished this tonight and loved it, but was a bit non-plussed by the ending. Without wishing to add any spoilers, was anyone else? I'm wondering if I missed something.

BadHairDayExpert · 27/02/2022 23:30

Just thought it was set up for a second series

Aquarius1234 · 28/02/2022 00:20

Is Esther confused about her sexuality?
Seemed like she was drinking a lot cos she was messed up about it.

BadHairDayExpert · 28/02/2022 18:52

Ah, I took it as she was looking for something - anything - to revive her as she doesn't feel she has 'lived.' Same boyfriend since forever, same trajectory, same job, same friends, same routine, everything.
So trying to shake things up.
Auto-destruct/self-sabotage to feel excited again.
Throwing herself into marriage as it is some kind of change from just meh. I took this from the school reunion in particular - that she is dissatisfied, feels bored/boring, mundane. The one-night stand with her boss was something different/new/catalyst as opposed to her being closeted.

MalbecMakesMeHappy · 28/02/2022 19:34

Loved it. A real easy watch, and very addictive to binge with such short episodes.

FlorhamPark · 28/02/2022 20:50

@PrinzessinCressida I felt the same!

PrinzessinCressida · 28/02/2022 22:35

Glad it wasn't just me, @FlorhamPark. I get "the setting things up for a second season" thing, but it just seemed so abrupt.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/02/2022 23:04

I love endings like that!

PrinzessinCressida · 01/03/2022 07:20

I hope they do get a second season or have one lined up already. I really liked it - I liked the characters and the setting, the lovely houses, even the grocery shop they were always going to, the guitar music, the songs at the end of each episode... The one thing I was not loving was Fox man's American accent, but I coped.Smile
