If anyone's missing the Sewing Bee and Handmade: Best British Woodworker, try this - it's filling the gap nicely! A bit like the woodwork challenge but with two teams of designers, so there's a slight Apprentice vibe watching them fight their corner for their ideas. So far it's one harmonious team, and the other consists of one assertive character plus three mutterers looking a bit downtrodden. Woman judge has amazing bobbed hair and specs, like the Sewing Bee woman. Mondays at 8.00

I've just watched this programme. It caught my interest as a library worker. It was like Simone was in charge and the younger guys were her assistants😀 She was absolutely right about the angles needing to be accurate. I couldn't believe they didn't realise it matters.
That said, neither chair looked particularly comfortable, they both needed cushioned seating and curved rather than sharp angles behind the knee area.
Personally, I thought the losing team's design would fit better in a library setting. Simone's design echoing book pages was clever but totally impractical. I could easily imagine a nasty accident with those shards.

I thought the same about cushioned seating, but they were restricted to timber and acrylic in the brief. Hadn't thought about curved edges, or indeed nasty accidents - all fun and games until someone loses an eye, to throw in a suitable book title!

They don't have much time to do it though - think it's only two or three days. I wouldnt even know where to start!! Did you see this week? I thought the mushroom light installation thingy was amazing. I would love one. The teams seemed to get on better too.

LadyAddle · 01/03/2022 19:00

Yes, the mushrooms were beautiful and really clever, I liked the magnetic idea that made them adaptable. I did prefer the water and plant lights though, they ticked all my favourite boxes. Was wondering today if I could make an equivalent without electrocuting myself or flooding the table.
I'm not sure about the teams getting on better, though, Massimo had a few sharp words to say when Simone started telling people what to do again! There's assertiveness and bullying, and I thought she crossed the line last week - the young blokes were very toleratn under the cirumstances

Oops, sorry for typos, not wearing my glasses - tolerant and circumstances

Did you watch tonight? I love Hugo and Massimo so much. That eclipse piece was inspired 😍😍😍 I need it in my life

LadyAddle · 08/03/2022 12:25

Yes, I loved it too - so simple and elegant! (I blush to say I'm fascinated by Hugo's eyebrows, and his elfin aura .... ) It would be nice if some of their ideas were developed for general market; I'd buy that clock and the watery plant holder like a shot.
Interesting to see Simone and Annabelle working together; Simone's obviously better with one to one instead of wanting to organise a team. Do you get the feel that points are slightly stars for good behaviour as well as design?!
I'm going to feel bereft now that Pottery Throw Down is over, and this is ending; they're such comfort viewing.

Hugo is adorable!!!! His and Masimo's clock was definately the best. I agree it WAS interesting to see Simone and Annable working together, mebbe she gets on better with women??? They didnt seem to have any trouble at all. The time it all kicked off with her, the men she was working with were being indecisive or not being thorough enough. I think I would get annoyed tbh!!! Though I wouldnt be as rude.

LadyAddle · 14/03/2022 21:27

Oh poor Hugo - I loved his! Annabelle’s was lovely though, good winner. Nevererdov Orbital, am showing my age …..

Yes I loved Hugo's too. I felt quite upset for him. But Annabelle was a worthy winner this week, she was so emotional and clearly won them all round there and then.
