No more TV ever needs to be made!

There's so much out there that's been recorded from the 1960's, 70's, 80's, 90's etc ... Surely we have now reached a point where no more new TV needs to be made? There's not enough hours left in the universe to watch everything that's already been made.

But the newer stuff is very very often better, or at least more suited to modern tastes. There is a reason why this has been called “the golden age of TV.” I like some old shows but they are rarely as complex and gripping as current ones. Filmmaking technology has come a long way and made it possible to tell a wide variety of stories in a realistic and beautiful way. Modern TV is just higher quality in terms of the acting, cinematography, narrative, writing and just about everything else. Also the world has changed and people are interested in exploration of different topics than they were 30 years ago.

Is this a real question?

I don't think people will stop telling stories.

I'd say we're 10 years past the golden age of television though.

But a lot of it is crap and we don't all have the same tastes. I can't stand game of thrones or breaking bad for instance. I have tried to watch them as my partner loves them, but they hold no interest to me.

I guess people don't need to write any more books, make any more art etc either?

We could all just sit and watch The High Chapperal and old episodes of coronation Street until we slip into death?

Changing attitudes - so many jokes don’t resonate anymore.

Even stuff from 10 years ago can feel dated.

Case in point... watching a medical drama from 2013 later night. Kid had infectious disease, had to ask why doctor was wearing a mask near her.
