For me its 'This Is Us' So, after trying a couple of times to watch this, being assured its amazing and wonderful and all that...

I grudgingly accept... its OK

I can't get into Discovery of Witches though, Its right up my alley, witches and vampires, but I don't know, I just cant!

Community. I've tried, it's ok but nothing more.

Coatandhat · 30/01/2022 21:33

Schitts Creek. I was underwhelmed with the first two episodes and nearly stopped watching but after three I was hooked. Love the characters and how they develop. Got quite tearful near the end!

onemouseplace · 30/01/2022 21:36

It took DH and I three goes to get past the first couple of episodes of The Wire. Then we got completely addicted, so much so that DH has watched it twice through now.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 30/01/2022 21:39

Took me 5/6 years to get into Friends.

Season 6 was the first one I watched in ‘real time’ and then went back and watched the earlier ones.

When I first watched it I found it too bright and colourful - autism. Maybe it was that particular television as I’m okay with it now.

Flackattack · 30/01/2022 21:54

Schists creek - powered through - underwhelmed.

Peaky blinders - took two goes - amazing!

FloatyBoaty · 30/01/2022 21:57

Riverdale

3 false starts and then I watched ALL the seasons in about 2 weeks Grin

LadyCathdeBourgh · 30/01/2022 22:01

I've tried twice with the first episodes of Peaky Blinders and The Wire but can't keep going. Maybe third time will be the charm!
I like This is Us but can't binge watch it - it's too emotional so I dip in and out.
I was the same as Coatandhat with Schitts Creek. It was a slow start but I love it now.

Hotelhelp · 30/01/2022 22:03

I’m not there with The Crown yet

Ikeameatballs · 30/01/2022 22:06

DP is re watching Derek atm. I really didn’t like it first time I watched it but this time it has really grown on me, some great characters.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 30/01/2022 22:07

I had this experience with The Wire and Breaking Bad. With The Wire I found it blokey and unappealing, and with Breaking Bad I found his lung cancer vicariously exhausting and depressing. In both cases I persevered solely because people I trusted told me it was worth the effort, and sure enough I loved both series in the end (and they both had good endings).

PuppyMonkey · 30/01/2022 22:16

I watched the entire first season of Schitts Creek and didn’t crack a single smile, so have never tried the rest. I suspect lots of people will come on here and say I need to stick with it but honest, if I’ve watched an entire season it probably means I won’t like the rest.

The Wire took me a while to get into but then it clicked and yes… it’s a life changing programme I think.

I tried a few episodes of This is Us but it never clicked.

… tbh there’s so much good stuff elsewhere if it’s such hard work to make the connection with a programme even after several episodes, maybe it’s just not meant to be.

CthulhuInDisguise · 30/01/2022 22:38

Line of Duty. Missed it when it first started, then DS kept nagging me to watch it, I couldn't get into it so gave up. When DH died I had nothing else to do so started again and now I love it.

Snapcrackleandhop · 30/01/2022 22:45

Motherland. Please tell me I'm not the only one !

FranklySonImTheGaffer · 30/01/2022 22:48

DH has watched 2 comedies that I abandoned because I thought they were a bit too silly for me, but tried them again a few years later on my own and loved them - The Office (the American one) and Brooklyn Nine Nine.

I attempted Game of thrones and Call The Midwife but abandoned them both as couldn't get into them at all.

I'm still attempting to drag DH into LoD with me though - he sat with me and watched a random episode of series 3, declared it too slow paced and gave up 🙄

VeryLongBeeeeep · 30/01/2022 22:51

I keep trying with Peaky Blinders. I think I've started it three times but it just doesn't hook me.

Mostly if I can't get into something after 3-4 episodes or a couple of attempts - or both - I give up on it. My tendency is to get into something years after everyone else (see: Friends, GoT, Buffy) and then I'm all "OMG this is amazing talk about it with me!!!" and they're yawning and wondering what rock I've been under for the past 10 years.

Costacoffeeplease · 30/01/2022 23:01

I can’t get into Schitts creek or this is us. I’ve tried both several times

Me neither.

Couldn't get past the first 5 mins of Fleabag,I tried 3 times. Then a friend forced me to watch the entire episode and I loved it .

Smidgy · 30/01/2022 23:05

Breaking Bad. I've watched the first couple of episodes a number of times over the years but it just doesn't grab me despite how great its supposed to be.

Ozark is the same. Started watching it three times but it doesn't do anything for me at all.

Ibizafun · 30/01/2022 23:05

Schteisel on Netflix for sure.

hmb255 · 30/01/2022 23:37

Succession took me a few goes to get in to. Love it now

booplefloof · 30/01/2022 23:50

Anything that is connected to Eddie Izzard

oobedobe · 31/01/2022 01:30

Succession took me two goes to get into then ended up being one of my favourites

Game of Thrones I used to half watch it then be confused. Later I binged it and love it so much (last two seasons were not good though). Can happily watch it every year.

The Sopranos is the one I’ve yet to get into despite trying!

Erictheavocado · 31/01/2022 12:31

The only one I can think of was Frasier. Found it very irritating and gave up. Watched an episode a couple of years later (dh had stuck with it) and enjoyed it and kept going with it.
Nowadays I give a programme 3 episodes. If I am not hooked by then, it's gone. Life is too short to keep giving chances to something that hasn't 'got' me after 3 episodes. Some stuff gets dumped after, or even during episode 1 if it is especially dire!

SantaClawsServiette · 31/01/2022 16:11

I had to stick with Succession a few episodes too, it initially seemed like just awful people being mean.
