I'm thinking Rockhopper is Nicole Scherzinger. That newsreader clue made it sound as though it's someone from Steps, but there was emphasis on the word "pave" and the first line of Memory from Cats is 'Midnight, not a sound from the pavement' and she has played Grizabella in Cats.
