Thread Three here to discuss the red herrings, daft clues, and to swear blind we recognise the voices/kneecaps/hands...

Thanks for setting up the new thread. Can't wait to see what Saturday brings!

I read a Twitter reply to the Masked Singer account saying that an upcoming show features songs with a hint to the singer's identity. Is this a regular thing, and if it is, are the musical clues as esoteric as the visual /verbal ones?

I am sure they did this last year too but can't remember how obscure the songs were. Although maybe that was the week Morten Harket sung Take On Me Grin
APJ1 · 19/01/2022 20:43

To give you an idea here's a Wiki screenshot of what they sang for last year's musical clues, with my nerd explanations below.

Blob - Lenny Henry's Premier Inn
Sausage - Joss Stone attempted to play a gig in every country in the world
Viking - Morten Harket. Needs no explanation, and the panel still didn't get it!
Badger - Ne-Yo also had a single titled Because of You, plus an album
Bush Baby - it was the theme to The Fast Show, which John Thompson was in
Dragon - Sue Perkins being without her usual sidekick Mel
Harlequin - Gabrielle sampled the track in her song Dreams
Robin - Aston Merrygold sang this on his first TV appearance as a child

Excellent thread title, by the way!

GrandTheftWalrus · 19/01/2022 20:57

Just marking my territory for Saturday Grin

SpanishFly · 19/01/2022 21:01

Yes the songs are often/usually a clue too

WeAreTheHeroes · 19/01/2022 21:23

Evening all. Well Saturday is something to look forward to. When do they merge the two groups?

Yes it’s regular although sometimes obscure.

Doughnuts, being Michael Owen Grin sang Eye of the Tiger in week one. He’s a racehorse owner and breeder, and his most famous/well known horse was Brown Tiger.

JeffThePilot · 19/01/2022 21:29

Oh wait I’m wrong, it was Brown Panther, oh well, close… 😂

ritalinda · 19/01/2022 21:38

Why did I kid myself I wouldn't join in these groups this time? 😁

mooncheese · 19/01/2022 21:46

New thread!! 😁

I think all of the songs have a meaning in some way. I’m only basing this on my guess for Panda (Emilia Clarke)

APJ1 · 19/01/2022 22:05

When do they merge the two groups

I think it's all eight performing this coming Saturday.

APJ1 · 19/01/2022 22:13

Is anyone here going to the live tour in April? It sounds like it's going to be a bunch of professional theatre performers singing and dancing in the character costumes from past series, joined by two disguised mystery celebrities who vary each night. Very family-orientated.

Now if it were in fact a selection of past participants just doing their thing normally (The Un-Masked Singer tour?), I'd be half-interested. I'd enjoy a show with the likes of Ne-Yo, Cee-Lo Green, Joss Stone and Morten Harket!

GrandTheftWalrus · 19/01/2022 22:22

I should be back at work by then and have already said I want to work that night. I'm interested in how they do it.

Winniewonka · 19/01/2022 22:31

I've just remembered that Aled Jones took his top off to play Joseph in the Technicolour Dreamcoat. I'd almost forgotten I took my son to see it about 25 years ago!

Claymorekick · 19/01/2022 22:37

But he said something like he made his money by taking his top off - sounds to me like someone whose career was about that rather than one small aspect if it involved having his chest out (iyswim). But I do think it is Aled Jones - just don't get some of the clues. Wtf has the triangle/cone shape got to do with him? If he was dressed as a snowman, I would understand Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/01/2022 23:27

Can't believe the first two threads passed me by! TMS is so addictive - trash, yet very addictive trash!

Somebody said about a clue 'being KEEN to do something' for that chap from Keane; but if they deliberately pronounced it slightly (unnoticeably inside a mask) different, it could be QUEEN. They definitely put false clues in there to convince you that it's somebody else. I reckon they have a list of anticipated 'decoys' for each actual participant and aim to chuck in a lot of red herrings!

mooncheese · 19/01/2022 23:46

The great thing about it for the people who like to go over the clues and Google (like me) is you can find something that connects a certain thing to the person you think you are sure it is….then see something else and a different person will come up on that search.

For Poodle I am hearing Tom Chaplin but seeing clues for James Blunt. But the wizard wand on the table, IMDb says Toms nickname is Tommy - Tommy the movie - the song Pinball WIZARD.

APJ1 · 19/01/2022 23:57

I'm fearing an awkward moment at Rockhopper's unmasking! I can see the younger members of the panel ultimately guess Kelly Rowland (with Jonathan and Davina saying someone like Sinitta, or Jennifer Hudson at a push) and then they have to pretend to be wowed even more when it's actually the least famous member of the group.

ritalinda · 20/01/2022 07:05

I think the panel are well drilled in expecting second-tier stars and notice how effusive they are at absolutely everything, like the themes each week, the fake enthusiasm is strong! So I think they'll be ok. At least Michelle Williams is part of a genuinely famous band. If Hayley Tamaddon comes out people will really be confused.

Claymorekick · 20/01/2022 07:19

Moment of inspiration about the reference of the cone shape being close to his heart...it could be referring to an ice cream cone (rather than a triangle or normal cone) so ice, winter, The Snowman Grin

APJ1 · 20/01/2022 08:12

The Snowman's nose!

Sunbird24 · 20/01/2022 08:19

The Snowman’s nose wasn’t a carrot in the animation, it was a satsuma/orange! Most people do associate carrots with snowmen though…

mooncheese · 20/01/2022 09:12

The snowman’s nose makes me think of the Comic Relief noses.
