Anybody watched this?

Just finished it and WOW! I had no idea about the opioid epidemic in the US. A cried buckets at Betsy all the way through. And feel horribly low that still today nobody in the Sackler family has paid for their evil crimes. Awful people.

What a brilliant show though. Michael Keaton earned a well deserved golden globe for his performance

I loved it! Really dark but so interesting.

Yes I was hoping for an uplifting ending but true to life there wasn’t really one Sad however it was refreshing to see a TV show depict recovery and addiction accurately. I hate it when characters just get locked in a room and spend 3 days going cold turkey before miraculously being cured and it never being spoken of again (looking at you Shameless)

Just finished it as well, so wonderfully done.

I read this article recently, so hopefully they will be held fully accountable

Yea it is brilliant though so sad

Recommend the book Empire of Pain if you are interested in learning more about the Sacklers. Well done to the attorneys who persisted in the case.

Brilliant series, very compelling, Michael Keaton really deserved the Golden Globe and I was so pleased he won, but I thought the rest of the cast were great too, the other characters were portrayed with painful but sympathetic reality. Apart from the vile Sacklers that is!

@Asyouwishbuttercup

I wasn’t aware of the level of opioid addiction in the US either, I had always assumed that when for example celebs were said to be “addicted to pain killers” as a reason for their behaviour it was tabloidese for addiction to other drugs. I hadn’t realised that the pain killer addiction was as real and as devastating as any other addiction.

We watched this too, it was excellent wasn't it!
I was saying to DH as watching it, the difference between here and the US. When I had a frozen shoulder a year or so ago, I had to beg my GP to prescribe medium strength co-codamol, and she flat out refused to prescribe the strongest ones. There, where it all comes down to money, they were doling out opioids like sweets! Sad

The bloke who played Richard Sackler I thought was excellent but in an understated way. He seriously gave me the creeps every time he was on screen and the lingering stares and monotone voice was so villain-like but not in a comical way. Brilliant!

Yea ima shamed to admit it was code for class-A drug addiction.

Corey Haim and Heath Ledger both died of accidental overdoses, including OxyContin. Robert Downey Jr was also addicted to it.

Just finished watching this on Disney plus. It was excellent, great acting and really worth watching.

tennissquare · 28/04/2024 22:06

For anyone who missed this on Disney+ it's starting on BBC2 this evening (and on IPlayer). It's a brilliant series.
