about teh new programme which is following social services into the homes of children whos parents are 'junkies' (no offense intended.) I'm still deciding if its a good thing or bad as there was a write up in yesterdays sun about it. (rather shocked by the programme actually)

So i'm just throwing it outt ehre to hear the general views.

It's on tonight at half ten. Can't bear to watch it myself. Seeing andy baby who is not happy and chubby and loved makes me want to burst into tears and wake my ds for a hug. I asked my mum and she said that this never changes.

zephyrcat · 16/11/2004 19:15

sounds intrguing - when's it on? i would like to see that and see what social services actually do about families like that

Munnzieb · 16/11/2004 19:20

well according to teh write up, they left the baby with the mother, even thou in the hospital she was screaming etc.. from withdrawl symptoms. would it not be beter to let the child go thru 'cold turkey?' (I assume she will be being bottle fed)

I agree it's better if the child is with the mother, but surely not in that case? I'll ahve to watch the programme and ,make a proper desision, but if it's really bad, expect a very strong message after!

i saw the trailer for it munnzieb, basically the social services were trying to get the point across that although a parent may be a drug addict, it doesnt necessarily make them a neglectful parent and they try to keep the child together with its natural birth mother.

well happy watching hten, and we'll have another chat after it I suppose. still each to his own.

That poor mite The poor little thing was wimpering and screaming in agony (think colic x 100) and the Mum was comforting her saying "i'm so sorry, you'll be fine in 6 or 7 days, don't worry". I don't know why SS lets addicts keep their babies, surely they should have to prove they are clean for a considerable amount of time before they can be considered responsible enough to be parents???

baggybear · 17/11/2004 22:24

westcountrylass - didn't see programme but mum told me all about it. how awful. do SS really think that mother is going to clean up her act? i think of all those couples out there who want children SOOO badly but can't and then her screwing up her life and her childs.

WestCountryLass · 17/11/2004 23:02

At the end of the programme the Mum said she was reformed and that she was not going to do it again cos of her baby but I think we are talking the day after she had her baby. When reality hits i'm not so sure. Call me cynical and I know each addict is an individual but i've known 6 H addicts and they had no willpower when the craving called/the shit hit the fan. Sheesh, she even said she just needed 12 hours to get H out of her system before she gave a urine sample so she already had considered ways to cheat the system.

I don;t think the mother really intends to stop, and it's a shame really as it's the child who suffers
