@Thatswhatmamasaid

I want to watch this! What channel was it on please?
Bbc so iplayer.
Maireas · 08/01/2022 15:29

The tour of that woman's wardrobe was extraordinary. She had so many handbags costing tens of thousands - wasn't one £90k? I just kept thinking that one shelf could buy a row of houses in some cities! That kind of wealth is unimaginable.

Maireas · 08/01/2022 15:32

@WowIlikereallyhateyou

Hideously naff individuals, especially the women who needs to have lifebuoys printed with Chanel! What is the point of that?!! Also don’t get me started on her hideously brattish and spoilt child.
I kept thinking that, what kind of life that nanny had.
Thatswhatmamasaid · 08/01/2022 16:42

Thank you @purpleme12.

Thatswhatmamasaid · 08/01/2022 16:43

And thank you @Fritilleries. Will watch on iPlayer tonight.

Feliana · 08/01/2022 16:49

It's a pretty disgusting set up that place, with all the sex abuse, slavery and segregation. Did they show any of that or was it more about the handbags?

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 08/01/2022 16:54

Maireas, I know, I bet the nannies think that too, but sadly are powerless. A real eyesight into everything that is wrong with the world!

Fritilleries · 08/01/2022 16:55

What do you think? The end credits list a Dubai media company so pretty sure its been screened for approval. It's incredibly surreal but the average, non thinking person won't be bothered.. they'll just get hooked by the "glamour." Tis the way with our society... don't look too closely, you'll see the filthy cracks.
Feliana · 08/01/2022 16:57

Urgh. And shown on the BBC? For shame.

BettyfromBristol · 08/01/2022 16:59

I watched a couple of episodes and thought it was sickening. Hugely bad for the environment, all those vacuous people somehow thinking that a row of naff handbags or a fancy car made them an interesting person. I'm not in the least envious, I'm a millionaire myself, but do my best to conceal this from everyone.

Maireas · 08/01/2022 17:02

What? No-one wants to go to the party at the Mugabes' house?

Feliana · 08/01/2022 17:09

Not even if he had ferrero rocher.

Fritilleries · 08/01/2022 17:26

@Feliana

Not even if he had ferrero rocher.
The woman who kept showing off her special book collection looked like she was desperate to be seen as loyal to the regime.
Maireas · 08/01/2022 17:30

@Fritilleries - the books and the portrait on the wall, the flag and the national colour tributes in the chandeliers. Hilarious.

Ozanj · 08/01/2022 17:31

@purpleme12

Two kitchen!! One not for smelly food!!
A lot of Indian families do this too lol. Smelly kitchen for cooking and nice kitchen for serving / making chai

He gives her a tax free existence, it's the least she can do. Grin

BettyfromBristol · 08/01/2022 20:58

With all the building work going on, I wanted to know about the working and living conditions of the thousands of presumably migrant labourers. I guess they are not top notch.

Feliana · 08/01/2022 21:34

Far from it. They have to give up their passports to their emoloyers. And although the emoloyers are nominally subject to regulations these are routinely circumvented. Eg it is illegal for employees to work outside if the temperature is over 40 degrees. But miraculously every development records a temperature of 39 degrees. In the gulf. The temperature never gets to 40 degrees. And all construction employees just hand over their passports for safekeeping. They don't have to, but all of them do, voluntarily.

batmanladybird · 09/01/2022 00:41

Ugh. It made me feel sick the conspicuous vacuous consumption of it all

SortMyHouse · 09/01/2022 00:50

It's not a recent trend
It's been going on for decades.
Shame on the people that allow this to happen to them.

Billlius · 09/01/2022 00:55

Does this programme feature that awful Stanbury woman who was on Ladies of London and who has just married a man 24 years her junior (it won’t last)? I think I saw her in the trailerz

Maireas · 09/01/2022 09:19

That housekeeper that only saw her son once a year and buying clothes in the second hand shop - her story being told in juxtaposition with the employer going on her private jet to Jersey at a cost of £80k. It's not a wealth gap, that's a chasm.

It does.
Thatswhatmamasaid · 09/01/2022 15:21

All the ladies look like they have overdosed on Botox and filler.

Gaynor almost seemed to be quite proud to hint to the audience of her having some sort of acquaintance with the Mugabe family. That was pretty sickening to watch.
