I felt the end was rushed, and there was no real explanation of who the man who inherited was. Yes, the man who died was his dad, but who was his mum ?
We were fed the line that the dead man was so in love with the arrested woman that he followed her across the world, yet he had a baby with an unknown other woman ?
I love this programme but felt that this one was a bit of a cop out.

He was the child of the wife, but with the man she murdered not the man who killed himself.

So the young couple buddied up with the young heir, pretended to break up so she got together with him, then killed him. She didn't want the baby of the man she murdered, so gave him up for adoption.

The man who killed himself got in touch with the boy out of guilt.

Ah, that explains it !

You're right, they didn't handle that bit well.

Thanks, glad it wasn’t just me, although I’d had a couple of glasses of wine by the end !

Yes, I'd say you had to be firing on all cylinders to catch it- and that's not what Death in Paradise is for! Grin

Is anyone else hoping that Matthew Baynton will get a long term part in DIP now? He's such a fab actor and his character has inherited a house on St Marie so...

(We LOVE Death in Paradise in our house Smile)

I'm excited for the new series, although I'm still not completely sold on Neville Parker and still mourning the loss of JP! I hope he comes back.

i thought that the bad couple thought that the bad man WAS his dad they were sleeping together

But obviously she also slept with the rich man a bit to keep him sweet! So she didn't know the son was actually belonged to him (though obviouysly it was possible)

What i wondered was, if someone dies at 20, intestate, why would his unborn son inherit? i didn't think the rules worked like that for unborn children?
ah apparently they do.

Referred to in the statute as a child en ventre sa mere (in the mother’s womb):
Administration of Estates Act 1925, s 55(2).

I really disliked Neville at first but they've toned down the allergies and anxieties quite a lot so he's more bearable. It was I let when I rewatched with the DC's that I realised how much I completely loved Jack. A'0H was so good in it.

On a technical point - in the depths of my memory and family law lectures - a child that has been formerly adopted severs their intestacy entitlement. That would mean the kid couldn’t have inherited the money.

I may be wrong and I’m not arsed enough to look it up, but I didn’t think it was best episode. Roll on better episodes.

picklemewalnuts · 03/01/2022 20:13

He wasn't adopted was he, @SlatternIsMyMiddleName ? Languished in foster care (unlikely in itself, for a healthy newborn).

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 03/01/2022 21:02

Oh, I must have missed that bit.
