Emily in Paris - a few thoughts for S2

Anyone else think these?

For some reason I didn’t enjoy the trashiness as much as in season 1

Alfie omg the whole beer and James Bond thing is too much.

I wasn’t as keen on Emily’s hair or clothing - just looked a bit too ridiculous and not as flattering? Like that giant pink bow on her birthday. She’s so skinny it just swamped her. And her hair is very oily and make up felt too dark and overdone. A shame as she’s a beautiful woman naturally.

Camille is gorgeous though and I love her accent, no matter how fake it is.

I think the only character I really like it Julien.

And her here I am, still watching!

Also is Mindy miming?

I love it too, I don’t really mind the trashiness!

I did think Emily’s clothes seemed a bit more out there this season. Perhaps it’s the influence of being in Paris awhile! Still loved it though, I like the fact it’s not too serious, can be quite funny and episodes aren’t too long

Llkjdhwhgsyoqobf · 27/12/2021 15:05

It does make me want to be in Paris. Especially as covid doesn’t exist in their universe! I’d happily be with Gabriel, although really he’s just as bad as the others.

Also how can Emily think Camille is going to be ok and forgive her considering what’s she’s done?! So selfish!!

Sylvie has a banging body!

Just finished the S2,gutted with the ending. Anyone else finished it?
I found Camille so annoying! And Alfie warmed on me a little

SudokuMania · 28/12/2021 22:44

I watched series 1, episode 1 again. Madeline (Emily's Chicago boss) is supposed to have a masters in French - why is her french so shit?

LadyCatStark · 30/12/2021 18:36

We’re on episode 3 and TBH I just don’t find Emily likeable at all. She thinks she can just get out of everything she does wrong by pouting and looking all “cutesy”, she thinks Camille should just forgive her and she expects everyone around her to speak English because she can’t be bothered to learn French… in France…

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 30/12/2021 18:43

Apparently Ashley Park (Mindy) does do the singing in the show, she’s Tony nominated and has worked on Broadway.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 30/12/2021 18:45

Alfie never having had Kronenbourg made me LOL, like it isn’t a 10 a penny supermarket lager in the UK Hmm

Tabbacus · 30/12/2021 18:46

I did like the first series, I mean it was terrible but also extremely watchable, I trudged through this one and didn't enjoy it. I agree the clothes are probably supposed to be as she has been there longer now, but it doesn't really match her role, how is she on so much money? I know it doesn't need to be realistic, but for me it also went a bit silly.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 30/12/2021 18:54

The fashion is totally ludicrous, impractically short, tight, or oversized. Clashing colours, patterns and stupid things like leather fingerless MJ gloves in the office. Really daft. Sylvie often looks the most chic, though that silver bubble wrap trouser suit was questionable.

The storylines are daft but the scenery is nice and I’ve got covid at the mo, so my brain capacity is severely impaired and it suits my current levels of cognition Grin

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 18:56

she can't master French otherwise it would be subtitled.

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 18:58

I like it, it's fluff

Chilver · 30/12/2021 19:05

She is so skinny this season; it looks like a strong wind would break her in two - it looks so unhealthy and is a terrible role model for young women I am finding it so distracting and really not enjoying season 2!

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 30/12/2021 19:12

She was very thin in s1 but I agree she was thinner in this series

edin16 · 30/12/2021 19:18

For those saying she's 'too thin' lily collins has openly talked about her struggle with eating disorders and her weight and has made steps to improve her life. How many of you would say the same about an overweight girl being on tv?

Am I the only one that thinks Alfie was a bit of a knob?

I really thought it was going to end with a ménage a trois between Emily, Gabriel and cami. There's one scene towards the end of the season where cami is stroking her arm quite seductively.

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 19:24

I just assumed she had relapsed

Chilver · 30/12/2021 20:30

I just think its irresponsible of the studio making the show to have someone who has openly said they have an eating disorder and looking to be really unhealthy as the lead in a show flaunting fashion and bodies.

YorkshireIndie · 30/12/2021 23:21

There is something different between the two seasons. It is almost like it has lost its spark

It’s a Darren Star show, rail thin women in daft fashion is his trademark

That makes it even more concerning. Nobody in their right might could say she is a healthy weight. We wouldn’t pretend an obese person was so why is it arguably ok if it’s an extreme the other way? Have we learned nothing from Nikki Graham? So, so sad. Sad

Yep, she has lost weight since the first series so is probably battling her ED still, really irresponsible to cast her in a show where her clothes and body are a focus.
SFisnotsimple · 31/12/2021 10:07

I agree with the comments about her eating disorder and the fashions shown - the scenes where she wears wide belts look especially unnatural and unhealthy.

I also despair at the luxe lifestyle, chic apartment, hugely expensive clothes and accessories when she's a junior marketing executive.

So on one hand - harmless fluff. But not really harmless if it's influencing or informing young minds.

snapsieplopp · 31/12/2021 10:11

The luxe lifestyle is just about believable because of her job & rich men she is dating, her apartment is quite basic.

I used to work in the fashion industry, I could borrow whatever I wanted to wear & often went to very nice parties/events simply because of where I worked or people I knew.

BiscuitLover3678 · 31/12/2021 11:27

Another thing - can anyone work out the timespan on this show? She’s supposed to be in Paris for 1 year. In season 2 they were acting like she still had a fair bit of time left, 6 months (correct me if anyone feels differently!)

So in around 6 months, maybe less, she has already attached to her office so much that she is considering giving up her long term job in Chicago where she is due a decent promotion. In reality she would be right on board with Maddie even though it’s awkward - what Sylvie and the others were doing was unprofessional and abusive at times!! Yet she’d consider giving up her whole career for this tiny potential thing in Paris? After 6 months? So dangerous career wise and a mess.

BiscuitLover3678 · 31/12/2021 11:28

My point is if she’d been there a good year it would make more sense to take such a risk.

Mistressofnone · 24/01/2022 12:48

I liked it as an easy watch. I don't like the way Sylvie speaks to Emily though, yet we're meant to quite like her. And don't know how someone would shrug it off so easily on a daily basis!

I don't think Emily would have had quite so much restraint with Gabriel in real life. They dragged it out a bit much. Only one brief embrace interrupted by a bar maid coming for interview! And flaunting Alfie in front of him.
