It was very good. Sweet and Christmassy!

CallmeHendricksGingleBells · 24/12/2021 14:52

Love Ghosts!

KittensTeaAndCake · 24/12/2021 14:59

It was good but wish it was longer.

OvenBakedOwl · 24/12/2021 15:00

It was ok but only ok. Perfectly watchable

Metheven · 24/12/2021 15:24

It was very good with an inordinate amount of Fanny jokesGrinGrinGrin

JoyOrbison · 24/12/2021 15:33

It was very good, loved the painting!

I loved last year's when Julian realised it really was all about family, family, family.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/12/2021 17:49

I enjoyed it and agree with the reviewer in The Guardian who can't understand why it isn't scheduled for evening of Christmas Day in place of a sitcom I shall not name as I can't stand the tiny glimpses of it I've had in trailers or when I switch channels. Possibly not the best episode ever, but very Christmassy.

MabelFurball · 24/12/2021 18:00

Jennifer Saunders was good in it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/12/2021 17:45

It was ok

Last years was better I thought

Same. I didn't actually like Nicholas that much I thought he was annoying. It was still rude that he gave the cottage pie to the dog! Pat was the best thing in it as usual!
LemonViolet · 25/12/2021 17:54

We enjoyed it after crimbo dinner

Loved the fanny stuff (entendres and the backstory) and also trying to work out how to fit “they’re basically civilians in silly hats” as a quote into everyday convo. Also loved the bit where Cap was heckling the camper and the second he revealed he was ex-services he goes “salt of the earth”. Timing is impeccable. So well done.

HermioneWeasley · 25/12/2021 17:56

Loved it but agree it should have been an hour long special. I love the fact Fanny is a killer mathematician and would loved to have seen that developed more.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/12/2021 20:59

Wonder if be a s4

OP posts:
Reallybadidea · 25/12/2021 21:02

Series 4 has been confirmed, yay!

Agree that it wasn't the funniest. I thought/hoped there was going to be a twist that Nicholas could see the ghosts too.

Newgirls · 25/12/2021 21:42

Really lovely. Should be peak time Xmas day

BlueCowWonders · 25/12/2021 22:17

We watched- and then immediately followed with last year's Christmas special Xmas Smile. Seemed the best thing on the telly

RJnomore1 · 25/12/2021 22:18

Lovely

Poor fanny. A dark horse indeed.

LublinToDublin · 25/12/2021 22:23

We really enjoyed it. Smile

KimikosNightmare · 25/12/2021 23:40

I thought it was perfect. I think I had something in my eye when Fanny said "it's still the same girl underneath"

It's impossible to have a favourite character- they are all so well written and well acted.

MrsWooster · 26/12/2021 00:03

It is so brilliantly written and acted. The whole horrible histories lot should get some sort of award to Education and Entertainment.
‘Still the same girl underneath’ made me well up a bit, too.

AntisocialJusticeWarrior · 26/12/2021 23:52

I thought it was just ok too. I didn’t really buy Fanny’s backstory either, imvho it doesn’t fit with her character like the other ones have. Still loved all the little bits like Robin and Mary teaming up and Pat’s quiz.

Pemba · 27/12/2021 03:41

Fanny's backstory was good, but it doesn't ring true that her full name is apparently Stephanie? She's a Victorian English lady, she would obviously have been Frances. The name Stephanie only caught on in the UK in the 1960s/70s.

But the whole thing was sweet, funny and enjoyable as usual.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/12/2021 07:22

The one who got painted - bad with names

He was in death in paradise last night

Matthew Baynton. He and James Corden co-wrote and starred in a series called The Wrong Mans a few years back which was very, very funny. My children read the Horrible Histories books but the TV series only started after they'd grown up, I think, so never seen that.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/12/2021 15:06

Yes I saw that. Was very funny
