I watched this for about the 5th time last night with my 17 year old DS.
I love it, so true, very funny, feels very British, I love watching another very normal Christmas happening in a house in Essex, all the standard highs and lows of being with family and a massive dose of booze and food.
It did strike me for the first time however, how sad it was the way they treated the elderly, frail, mute mother of Pete the neighbour. Put to bed early with an alarm round her neck, which she did ring multiple times and he was still so reluctant to respond. Ended up falling asleep behind the bar in someone else's house and noone even noticed when she wasn't at lunch in the house she should be in!
Obviously confused and frightened, but would totally know she was being an inconvenience and they were all hoping she would pop her clogs soon and be out of their hair.
Sad, and scary, and has tarnished G&S a bit for me now.
