As an ageing police woman I watched this recently and I can hand in heart say it's by far the most realistic portrayal of "the job " I've ever seen on any drama to date .
Bloody brilliant. Exactly how it is . From getting kicked in the face to trying to humanly put a sheep down without a vet on hand .

This is the job I do . I work a pit village up north. Have done for 12 years. Never seen a more accurate depiction of rural policing for a woman in late 40s .

It’s brilliant.

Season 2, Episode 1, Scene 1 is iconic. A brilliant meld of writing - Sally Wainwright, acting and chemistry between Sarah Lancashire and Siobhan Finneran. Can watch again and again and do Grin

Duchess379 · 22/12/2021 23:22

Me & my mum binged watched them! I'm a retired officer & loved them 💙

stillvicarinatutu · 22/12/2021 23:30

I'm 49 . The character Sarah Lancashire plays is so relatable to what I do .

Loved this series. Is there a third on the way? Good to hear it's realistic

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/12/2021 09:59

I watched all of series 1 and 2 back to back quite recently, having unaccountably not watched them when they first came out. I thought they were fabulous, and I am so pleased to know there is another series on the way. I can't remember now whether I read it is already filming or whether it's just scheduled to start next year. Either way, good news!

Bobbybobbins · 23/12/2021 10:00

I love it. Can't wait for the final series!

mushforbrain · 23/12/2021 10:02

Such amazing writing and acting. Only just binge watched and now recommend to everyone!

OllyBJolly · 23/12/2021 10:06

Oh - didn’t realise there was another series coming @Bobbybobbins . Thank you - something to look forward to. Such a good drama.

www.digitalspy.com/tv/a832987/happy-valley-season-series-3-cast-start-date-filming-bbc-air-date-release/

This says filming starts early next year and series 3 will probably go out early 2023. That's a long time to wait! Still, at least it's the original cast.

mizu · 25/12/2021 21:44

I watched these 1st time round and loved them.

Have just rewatched season 1 and had forgotten how BRILLIANT it is.

Been going on and on to my DDs to watch Grin

Starting season 2 now.

PAFMO · 26/12/2021 08:52

It's amazing.
Sarah Lancashire is amazing.
And I've just seen who the OP is! Hope you and yours are well @stillvicarinatutu Brew

IbuGerry · 28/12/2021 08:10

I have just re watched Happy Valley, the writing and acting is brilliant. Love Sarah Lancashire and James Norton.

ImInStealthMode · 28/12/2021 17:20

Absolutely LOVE this series. Initially only put it on to show DP some of my home county and we were soon obsessed.

My life now is just fruitlessly trying to find another crime/police drama that matches up Sad

Agree. Best Police drama and some of it was quite triggering. How are you Vicar? Been yacking on Mumsnet for a while. ( was Scurry).
Cleebope2 · 28/12/2021 17:28

Agree, one of the best ever series made and I only discovered it a while back. Only Unforgotten and Mare of Eastown and Unbelievable come close.

stillvicarinatutu · 28/12/2021 17:45

Scurry ! Wonderful to see you after all this time ! Hope you're well! You still in the job ?

pAF thank you !

‘Final series’? Say it ain’t so!
This is brilliant telly: wonderful writing, top-notch acting, lightning-in-a-bottle chemistry between Sarah L and Siobhan F.

Finfintytint · 28/12/2021 18:08

Vicar, no. Left after 22 years. A particularly nasty assault finally convinced me I’d had enough. Now working for Ambulance Service but miss my Police buddies. Glad you are ok and still plodding on.

stillvicarinatutu · 29/12/2021 01:03

Oh scurry I'm sorry to see you left but hope and am sure it was right decision.
I'm still there because I'm now driving a desk ! I'm in the force communications centre and I love it - the kids I work with all appreciate my help and experience, and I'm not frontline

I've binged this today. Now on S2. Excellent telly, until Shirley Henderson appeared. I'm not a fan of her as an actress. What's with the breathless whispering?!

Other than that it's been perfect for my lazy day.

Try No Offence, set in Manchester rather than Yorkshire but bloody brilliant
Highfivemum · 14/12/2022 20:08

Bringing up an old thread. I hope you all ready for happy valley 3. So so excited

XanaduKira · 14/12/2022 20:34

Thanks for resurrecting the thread!

I've rewatched season 1 and part way through season 2 getting ready for season 3. Had forgotten just how brilliant this series was. Sarah Lancashire is phenomenal.

I don't know you @stillvicarinatutu but wanted to say thanks for all that you and your colleagues do.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 14/12/2022 20:40

I'm really excited too

MavisMcMinty · 15/12/2022 17:48

Love Happy Valley, and am binge watching it atm, to get up to speed for the new series starting on New Year’s Day. Up to S2 E2 now!
