I just watched episode 1.

DH has watched a few & I said I would watch and catch up so we can watch them together. I’m just not sure I can watch the rest.

It left me feeling so anxious and low… it just felt so hopeless.

Tell me it’s worth watching.

It's worth watching. The first few episodes are quite bleak, understandably, and there are some tough scenes to watch but it's worth it.

It's worth watching

It's one of the few things that has really stayed with me recently.

In a good way! Although it there was a point mid way through where I wasn't sure I wanted to continue watching (not for any particular reason, just was having lots of thoughts about it) and gave it a break for a few days and came back to it.

It really does need to be finished. One of the best things there's been for a while.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 03/12/2021 19:54

Keep going. It gets more positive

Secretminty0 · 03/12/2021 19:55

It was one of the best series I've watched for a really long time.

IAmHereForTheFood · 03/12/2021 19:55

Thanks, I will stick with it & see how it develops then. God I hope things get easier for her!

I haven’t watched it but I imagine it’s like Erin brockovich and I love that’s film

Same here. Had to turn off at the start of Episode 2. I do hope it gets more positive. Too close for comfort in some ways.

Just started watching. Andie McD is so good!

DoucheCanoe · 14/12/2021 18:15

It's worth watching to the end but it's not a happily ever after kind of thing if that's what you're looking for.

The book goes a bit more in depth about the situation if you are a reader.

Panacotta · 15/12/2021 08:25

Binged it yesterday as am stuck in bed with lurgy. It's not cheery is it?! But well acted.

Snowisfallinghere · 15/12/2021 08:26

The one with the kid's birthday party depressed me so much Sad

dudsville · 15/12/2021 08:30

That show is a masterpiece, but it's so well done that it's hard to sit with. It's certainly a journey, but only 10 episodes. I disagree with the pp re the ending, I had tears of joy for her, and weeks on am still feeling happy for her. I won't say more for fear of spoilers.

I hated the way everyone in her life seems to go out of their way to sabotage all her efforts. Yes I know that the US is a terrible place to be poor in, but no one can possibly be this unlucky.
Her f*cking mother made me remember to take my pills because I felt my anxiety spiking out of control 😖.

Sparklfairy · 09/01/2022 02:26

It touched more than a few nerves for me too, but I found it gripping. Her pure grit to keep going, and every obstacle thrown at her, with the worst setbacks imaginable. I think I need to watch it again!

I am just watching this during my second bout of Covid. Loving it. Amazing to find something this good! I am a family lawyer and interesting to see how that process works there. I loved the bit in the court in episode 2 where they are saying 'legal legal legal'.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/06/2023 15:04

Gets much more positive, the first episode was awful!
