Did anyone watch it today? It feels like a half hour programme stretched out to an hour. But it was quite good.

OP posts:

I've just watched the first episode with the 40s women. I thought Your Home Made Perfect did it better. And what was with them mimicking their voices? I found that very hard to listen to.

Immaculatemisconception · 01/12/2021 18:40

I watched today. I thought the designs were hideous.

trulyconfuseddotcom · 02/12/2021 23:08

Just skipped through all three - this is a truly terrible programme! Too long for the content, very repetitive and the designs are pretty poor. I knew it wasn't going to be great when a solution for hiding a washing machine in the first episode was to chuck a bit of navy fabric over it that didn't even reach the floor. And the last designer with his horrendous suggestion for a Perspex mirror tiled ceiling in green and gold, it was like something you would see in a house viewing that hadn't been touched since the 70s or 80s that you'd be desperate to rip out if you bought it. It reminded me of some of the worst episodes of Changing Rooms. Yikes.

Agree, I couldn’t get over their voices, very weird! and so far every design has been dreadful! Tablecloth over the washing machine? The washing machine should have been moved to the alcove at the bottom of the stairs, in fact the cellar should have been made into a proper full on utility room, much better use of space.

Did anyone see the episode where the new kitchen didn't have s dining table, just a breakfast bar with two chairs. There wasn't a separate dining room. I don't know what they'd do if people were coming for dinner. Luckily the couple saw sense and modified the design and put in a table and chairs.
I found it odd that the woman said she disliked brass fittings and yet they put brass handles and taps in.

Rummikub · 14/12/2021 02:04

I quite like this programme.
It’s not bad for afternoon telly. The previous offering was much better.
Though it annoys me when the participants ask for a bolder or different colour and they change it by one shade.

Rummikub · 14/12/2021 02:06

‘Clean it, fix it’

Colleenprice · 15/12/2021 21:47

Hi guys. I have a huge insight here...im on the show. Obviously im a bit biased...i loved it, but definitely could be condensed down to half an hour, i totally agree x

LIZS · 15/12/2021 21:56

It is all rather lacking in enthusiasm and creativity. Imbalance between the virtual part of 30 minutes with the realisations only in last 10 minutes and no sense of how the compromises are reached or to budget. Today's was ridiculous that they had not checked about removing the wall when it was so critical to the design.

Ooo really?! How did they do the vr? Projection?
Colleenprice · 16/12/2021 06:29

No its a new technology- very clever. Filming was done up in Scotland. There are only 2 of them available in the UK.

Rummikub · 16/12/2021 08:49

Damn!
I was hoping I could get similar done in B &Q😂

And do they only give you one or two swap options?
Did you implement the changes and like if?

Colleenprice · 16/12/2021 09:15

My episode is on tonight! - yes, you could ultimately do what you like and yes, because so much work goes on behind the scenes to create the swaps you could only do one or 2

Rummikub · 16/12/2021 09:17

That’s interesting!
Oh I’m out this afternoon so I’ll miss it.
Glad it was a good experience.

LadyEloise1 · 16/12/2021 15:22

@Colleenprice
Oh !
I have it recorded.
Looking forward to seeing it.

LadyEloise1 · 17/12/2021 07:57

@Colleenprice I'm not sure if the show I watched last night that I had prerecorded was the one you were in - a lovely couple in Gloucestershire with a dd and a dog.
The surrounding area was gorgeous.
I liked what was done. It was much cosier.
I loved the bifold doors - that was a great idea.
So glad the acoustic wall was dumped - horrendous.
I'm glad too the awful curtains the designer chose in the second option weren't chosen. They were not liked by the husband.
I did like the wall shelving in the first option.
The one thing I disliked was the bench seating at the dining table.
I'd far prefer chairs, so much more comfortable having a support for your back. Lovely when friends come over, they can sit back at the table, relax and chat.

The brief was a nice, cosy space to relax
in the evenings and you certainly got that.

Colleenprice · 17/12/2021 08:15

That was me and my husband...thankyou so much :)

LadyEloise1 · 17/12/2021 08:25

Have you kept it as it was when the show ended or have you kept things exactly the same ?
I often wonder on similar shows do the crew put in accessories for filming the final result and then remove them when filming is over ?

LIZS · 17/12/2021 08:31

Always wonder how staged and show-home the visit is. Is the living in it afterwards different, with usual clutter of everyday life and limited storage.

Colleenprice · 17/12/2021 08:46

Everything is exactly the same. Everything in there we bought and have kept. I can only speak for this show though- other shows maybe more staged.
As for looking like a show home on the visit- this morning my daughter was sat on that table- milk drribbling all over the table- cereal over the floor, dog hair everywhere, empty wrappers from last night- nope- we are completely normal and it was only like that for the final reveal ;)

LIZS · 17/12/2021 16:27

Only saw last part today but the fittings seemed very mismatched and the door frame unfinished. Where was the loo roll and towels, let alone toiletries!

LadyEloise1 · 17/12/2021 19:40

That wasn't @Colleenprice's house LIZS

LIZS · 17/12/2021 19:57

No I realise that but original discussion was more general.

Rummikub · 17/12/2021 20:24

I quite liked the bathroom one
Both designs were nice

LadyEloise1 · 18/12/2021 09:14

The woman wanted a bath in the bathroom.
She didn't get it. Hmm
I preferred the first option. The bath was lovely.
