Recommend me some light-hearted fluff please

I'm generally feeling rubbish at the moment, and could do with some decent light-hearted fluff for a while. If the new season of Emily in Paris was released yet I'd be watching that, that's the kind of fluff I'm talking. I've mostly been watching Succession (only started with S1 about a week ago), and I think it's making me feel worse, I'm having weird anxious dreams where I'm arguing with people. Any ideas for enjoyable series (but not to American teenagery please)?

Sorry you're feeling rubbish. There's a remake of Dynasty on Netflix which is watchable tripe!

When I was feeling particularly low this time last year I enjoyed Mallory Towers on iPlayer.

Meanwhile DC (early teens) were watching Octonauts for the first time in years.

Alma's Not Normal is great! Only 6 episodes. (Sadly!).

loopylindi · 21/11/2021 10:31

depends on your sense of humour. We are enjoying The Outlaws at the mo.

Orchid876 · 21/11/2021 10:32

Thank you for the suggestions! All of those sound like they're worth a try.

You need A Place to Call to Home. Set in 1950s Australia about a nurse who falls in love with a local wealthy man but his family disapprove. It’s a bit of a cheese fest but very feel good. Bit of romance but lots of side story lines of various plots of scandals, etc.

I am in bed feeling crap. Yesterday I watched "last Xmas" on Netflix. A v lighthearted film with Emilia Clarke. Nice scenery of London at Xmas.

devildeepbluesea · 21/11/2021 12:43

Shakespeare and Hathaway on iPlayer. My go-to brain candy show.

Crumblinginside · 21/11/2021 12:51

Have you watched Downton Abbey and Poldark

BeaucoupFish · 21/11/2021 12:56

@Orchid876
Drop Dead Diva (though not sure if it is streaming on any sites) fits the bill as does Ugly Betty
Monk is also just being re-run on Sky/Now

Virgin River on Netflix is perfect when you need some light hearted fluff

CallMeRisley · 21/11/2021 13:08

Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias on Netflix

Mackmama · 21/11/2021 13:10

Angels of the North on iPlayer is my guilty pleasure, I’d love to be a Longlox girl!

Violetparis · 21/11/2021 13:12

Sex and the City

WinterCarlisle · 21/11/2021 13:20

What we do in the shadows on BBC iPlayer is BRILLIANT

When I was really low after surgery I rewatched Derry Girls. I’d forgotten just a how fab it is. Cheered me right up Smile

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/11/2021 13:53

Outlander - total tripe but engaging
Bridgerton - ditto
Marvellous mrs Meisal - no where near as good as it should be, but diverting and better than Emily in Paris
Fleabag - utter genius
Catastrophe - might be a bit sharpe but try it
This way up
Call my agent (Paris)
Succession is too twisted - you might find the good wife really sucks you in though

Films wise you might like the Devil wears Prada, the September issue if you like a. Fashion setting

SingleHandSue · 21/11/2021 14:01

Agree with pp that The outlaws is definitely worth a watch, we really enjoyed it.

The Cockfields on Gold is good and a very easy watch. I binged series 2 yesterday while snuggled on the sofa.

Sparkai · 21/11/2021 14:03

Derry girls is also my go to here. Fleabag is immense, but too angsty/existential when I am anxious.

Creepypastard · 21/11/2021 14:09

I'm trying to think of 'non-teenagery fluff' but there's loads of it about!

If you've not seen The marvelous Mrs Maisel on Prime yet I'd say that's a definite though!

JuneOsborne · 21/11/2021 14:10

Yeah, virgin river is excellent for this!

But, I really rate Jane the Virgin. Gutted I've watched it all already tbh.

TrampolineForMrKite · 21/11/2021 14:18

Modern Family. Loads of it and it’s funny and sweet.

unbelievable1 · 21/11/2021 14:22

I can’t believe Schitts Creek hasn’t been mentioned yet! Such a fab show. Warm and funny

Yingandyang · 21/11/2021 14:35

Selling Sunset on Netflix, if you have seen it, season 4 is out on Wednesday

Yingandyang · 21/11/2021 14:42

Why Women Kill, which despite the title is a bit like Desperate Housewives

GreenClock · 21/11/2021 14:46

Jane the Virgin
Suits
Darling Buds of May
Motherland
