Only Murders In The Building

Has anyone else found this gem yet?

It's on Disney+ channel and stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as 3 neighbours in an upmarket New York apartment building who end up working together to solve the murder of another neighbour.

I've binged the whole thing over the weekend, and hoping they will get a second season as it's clearly setup for one at the end.

Really enjoyed it too, thought it had a great cast. It definitely felt like series 2 was lined up.

Oh I really want to watch this as I love Selena Gomez, but I don’t have Disney+

I just watched the first two episodes. Got the Disney Plus for £1.99 for the month.

I'm old so not really aware of Selena Gomez really but thought she was great in this.

Really impressed with how well she gelled with Martin & Short who are such huge characters. Mabel could so easily have got 'lost' between the banter of those two but she really held her own.

Love it - but Selena Gomez is awful imo, with that awful monotone and expressionless face. They could have cast Mabel so much better. All the other characters are fantastic and the plots are brilliant - really enjoyed it.

I just googled Martin Short because while I recognise him, I don't know why...

The only thing I have seen him in is Damages and I don't remember him in that. But he is really making me laugh in this.

Obviously I'm only two episodes in but I hope they make a podcast 😂

Sort of films I don't watch

The show was recommended to me by a friend when I said I couldn't find any comedy to watch. Seems a good shout so far.

I'm glad other people here have watched it as no one in real life seems to! It has an old school vibe that I like.

I like Martin Short and Steve Martin together, ever since Father of The Bride. They work really well together.

I didn't really follow Selena Gomez before and I can't work out if the character is supposed to be robotic and speak in a monotone way or that is how she behaves normally.

I'm not really a fan of that.

The other characters add some comedy to it. The woman who runs the building committee makes me laugh.
The building and surroundings are lovely to look at.

Hardly - but a more experienced actor would be able to convey that without resorting to a monotone and expressionless face. I just don’t think she’s a match for the other actors.

The rest of the show is fab though.

We got the £1.99 Disney+ deal too. The DC had been wanting it for a while. The first thing I watched was Only Murders. Binge watched it last week. Loved it, told DH about it and now he's started watching it and I'm rewatching it with him. Can't wait for series 2.

Really like the interaction between the three nain characters - lots of humour and one liners. Very clever.

On episode 6 and both bored now.

Seems to be a big change of tone and fewer laughs.

I liked the show but I admit I watched more as an in-the-background show rather than giving it my full attention.

As for those wondering about Selena Gomez - the monotonous voice etc is definitely the character not the actress! She did a lot of children's television shows in the past (Disney Channel star) and was very animated on those.

I just finished it and really loved it. Agree it lost a bit of something towards the end but I still enjoyed it. I’d love to live in that building!

Does the show get more focused back on the building? I'm bored with her mum, the cop etc.

SirChenjins and others - I agree Selena Gomez was so wooden and monotone. It was all very silly but an easy watch.

I loved the two Martins together. Selena not so much. She has no charm.

Also enjoyed watching a light, silly, colourful show about murder instead of the usual dark fare about serial killers in gloomy basements.

An absolute joy. I like Selena's understated style in contrast to the other rwo.

I got a 3 month subscription with clubcard points. This was the first thing I watched. Loved it.

Agree that it has a certain old fashioned charm to it. Love Steve Martin.

Will have to get another subscription when the 2nd season is out
