You know I actually think that most of this series has been a waste of time but this one about risotto is genuinely interesting

God I saw him make a cheeseburger once. It was agony. He was nearly growing the wheat to mill his own flour for the bun.

Can you imagine being him. Even beans on toast would be torture.

It is good.
Seems more serious than the other episodes and less 'let's film him in Delhi because it'll make good tv'.

Cod - people kept offering to help me with my luggage (I had a silly holdall instead of something sensible on wheels) and we had been given some free books so it weighed a ton, and they kept going 'What have you got in there, some more of our sculpture, ha ha!'

I would love to see it all priced up - not that I'm missing the point exactly, but it would be interesting to know how much all this costs.

i really heston b's persona, approach etc. but i've struggled with my inner puritan disliking this whole series, both taste wise and 'tut tut what about the starving millions'.

I think we are oddly puritanical about food in this country - ie it's ok to spend loads of money on clothes, gadgets, etc, but not food.
If you see it as art it's not so shocking.
Actually cooking a whole Heston recipe would frighten me though, as you could wreck several days work and ££££ of ingredients just by having the stove too hot at the end. I like to take bits and pieces from the progs rather than whole recipes.

Looking at that recipe, I can't help wondering whether "(or substitute another brand of carnaroli rice)" is really a very Heston style of comment...

He didn't really explain why carnaroli is better.
It's not that hard to get through - at least one of the major supermarkets (Sainsburys I think) does it.

The Italian chef who put instant coffee granules in his risotto (with sea urchin) had me a bit .
