How hard is it for Rose on Strictly to dance

I though her dance tonight was beautiful and v emotional. And so lovely to see so many of the judges etc signing as well as speaking. But no one really seems to be mentioning what an achievement it is to dance without being able to hear the music. To my mind she is doing an incredible job and must be working so hard to achieve each week. Anyone with a connection to people in the deaf world can explain how difficult this is?

I'm interested in this

boomwhacker · 09/10/2021 21:06

I thought that what she said tonight was really interesting- how she is feeling the music through her partner rather than counting. She's more in time than some of those that can hear which is so impressive.

Sexnotgender · 09/10/2021 21:08

It’s absolutely fascinating, she’s amazing!

Teenagetrouble · 09/10/2021 21:09

@boomwhacker but that was only for this dance - previous weeks she has to count all the steps to keep to time and you can see her counting. The stress of it must be huge

I only watched the first week, but I did think they'd chosen particularly percussive music and wondered if she was able to feel the rhythm through the floor. I have no experience but I worked with a deaf woman once and that's how music was to her. Also thinking of Evelyn Glennie (think that's how you spell her name) the deaf percussionist.

I'm Mumma Bear to @RainbowWilf996 who is deaf. I'm sure he will have something to say... 💙 💙

Gardenlass · 09/10/2021 21:11

It was so emotional watching her dance, she was superb. Quite simply brilliant.

ISpyCobraKai · 09/10/2021 21:13

Hello everyone it me Wilf here.

I am deaf I love the music I can hear the music using my hearing aids but I find it difficult when the songs coming on I don’t know which songs but if I hear rap or beating vibrations I love to dance and chasing the disco lights as I love sensory disco lights

Elderflower14 · 09/10/2021 21:17

The first time @RainbowWilf996 danced to music was when he was six. I put Shiny Happy People on at full volume. Wilf felt the vibrations upstairs and came down and danced with me. It's one of our special songs.

Teenagetrouble · 09/10/2021 21:19

Thank you Rainbow - it must be such an achievement for Rose to do this each week with only a week to learn each dance. She is doing such a lot to raise awareness - it was beautiful tonight - did you see her?

I'm in awe. It was so interesting that Grazziano said she's more in tune with their bodies than some professionals he's danced with.

She's inspiring me.

RainbowWilf996 · 09/10/2021 21:22

Yes I did and she is amazing!!!!! @Teenagetrouble

This was mentioned on radio 6 last week, think it was the segment that is maths with Dr Hannah Fry? It said that Rose uses maths (counting) so she can’t hear the music but has learnt the mathematical beat and this is why you can see her counting as she dances. Amazing!

SergeiL · 09/10/2021 21:27

I was in tears and my kids were in awe tonight. The dance was beautiful.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/10/2021 21:28

Nothing inappropriate about Giovanni

She said she felt the best in the percussive dances.

Her dance reduced me to tears tonight.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/10/2021 21:28

Elderflower14 · 09/10/2021 21:29

Have any of you seen Nyle on DWTS. He won a few years ago. He's profoundly deaf too.
