Fancy something different for a change and it's always nice to see a bit of different scenery/culture. I've loved Shtisel and Srugrim, Fatma wasn't bad and I've a few other Turkish shows on my watch list. Any suggestions?

@waltzingparrot started a thread last month - similar but not the same as yours. Lots of film ideas on there - many of them are on Netflix or Prime.

There are some cracking Turkish comedies on Netflix, funny even using the subtitles. I really liked one called Brother in Love. Maybe this link works:

It's been around for a while (several seasons) but if you haven't watched it yet, Casa de Papel (Money Heist) is very good.

rosegoldwatcher · 08/10/2021 19:02

One that I watched recently and can recommend, highly, is The Defeated on Netflix. It's a thriller set in post-war Berlin.

Family Business, season three now streaming. If you liked 10 per cent this is 10 per cent crossed with breaking bad ( not my description but is as good as any ).Improves your ability to swear in French no end , mostly down to Liliane Rovere who is fabulous and potty mouthed when roused.

waltzingparrot · 09/10/2021 16:31

@rosegoldwatcher Thanks for the link.

RozHuntleysStump · 09/10/2021 17:09

Borgen is really good. I bloody loved it.

jay55 · 09/10/2021 17:43

I loved Lilyhammer on Netflix, half in English half in Norwegian with great scenery.

DynastyBarry · 09/10/2021 17:44

Or The Barrier also Netflix in Spanish

MoChridhe · 10/10/2021 01:18

Winter Sun

Kurt Seyit & Sura
Both Turkish

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/10/2021 01:20

My favourite non English series is Dark

Recently Squid Game and The Chestnut Man

GreenClock · 10/10/2021 09:44

Le Bureau
Spiral
Deutschland 83, 86 and 89
Hinterland

There’s a German drama on Netflix called Charite based on true events (set in a real life hospital in Berlin - first series is Victorian era, second one is WW2 and a third one set in Cold War 1960s is imminent).

When/if you’re in the mood for something festive, try the Norwegian Netflix drama Home for Christmas.

XiCi · 10/10/2021 09:58

Borgen, The Bridge, Money Heist, Gran Hotel, Le Bureau, Call my Agent, Spiral, Braquo, Hotel de Luna, Squid Games. All very different but brilliant in their own way

XiCi · 10/10/2021 10:01

Oh and Lupin as well. Really entertaining watch

ISpyCobraKai · 10/10/2021 14:30

Caliphate

Geamhradh · 11/10/2021 17:28

Money Heist is quite simply the best thing I've ever seen. Ever.
The Bridge obvs. I can speak Danish and Swedish now and have serious Scandi house and furniture envy.
Dark was a total headfuck and took me twice as long to watch as it should because I kept having to refer to my notes and Fandom. Grin but very well worth it.

LessthanJurassicPark · 11/10/2021 17:31

Just finished Jaguar in Spanish. Was pretty good. About Nazi hunting in Franco’s Spain.

BootsMcToots · 11/10/2021 17:33

Bonus Family.

I almost cried when I finished it.

PickAChew · 11/10/2021 17:36

We've been introducing Ds1 to the idea of watching stuff in other languages by tracking down all t e various scandi versions of Taskmaster, on YouTube. We're currently working our way through the first season of (Finnish) Suurmestari, though our favourite has been the Norwegian one, Kongen Befaler.

rosegoldwatcher · 11/10/2021 17:56

@BootsMcToots

Bonus Family.

I almost cried when I finished it.

Oh I agree! It's amazing.

"Typewriter" (Goan). "Kingdom" and "Sweet Home" (both Korean and well worth sticking with). Tokyo Stories - Midnight Diner.
