Why are sports people now tv presenters??

What's this thing with ex sports people being tv presenters? I get it commentating on sports, or presenting a sports show, but tonight there are 2 ex sports people who are as wooden as trees presenting the One Show. Is this not quite insulting to presenters who have spent a years working on their craft to have any old person who can read an auto queue trundled out. The guests are very polite but you can tell they are thinking the same thing. The guests should have to be working hard to hide how shit the presenters are.

It’s the same with everything now - sports stars, celebrities becoming TV and radio presenters, authors etc. Like you say people spend years working on stuff and then they get someone high-profile in with little experience. It must be annoying!

Sportspeople - especially retired sportspeople - have been presenting sport on TV my entire life! It’s not a new thing.

And surely the contextual benefit of their knowledge and experience is more valuable than a well trained screen persona? Certainly is to me.

@EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues I think you've misread the OP, I understand why they would present a sports program due to their specialist knowledge, just like I would expect a chef to present a cooking show. However a magazine general entertainment show I expect to be presented by someone with some knowledge or experience of presenting and making it entertaining.

I completely agree Op - it's tiresome how inexperienced & wooden they are and yet they get these jobs!

The night I was talking about was Samantha Quek and Jermaine Jenas. It was painfully wooden.

Jermain is an awful presenter, I don't know how he keeps getting these jobs, he's wooden and constantly butts in.
