@BeaLola

We have decided that Kai looks like he belongs in Heartbeat, Goodnight Sweetheart or Call the Midwife or crossing the pond The Maltese Falcon Smile
I totally get that.

Think Nonatus House should do a charity danceathon to raise funds for the babies of Poplar. He could teach the midwives how to jive or something l

BeaLola · 03/10/2021 23:36

Why is Diane the one that always has the most ott for movie week ?

Pasha used to be the make pro who was dressed up the nost - Was he Shrek with Chelsee Healey?

I'm thinking Greg has got a tango for Bond - just which one ?- Gokdfinger, A View to a kill ?

StormyCornishSeas · 03/10/2021 23:51

My money is on the bond theme tune. Which is in all of them. I can see some moody tango head turns to that music

Good thought

As a lot of previous posters have said it's much better in the early series when in the first few weeks they had the same dances to do so you either had say a Waltz or a Cha Cha to do and then the viewers at home could compare couple against couple more.

I also believe Couples Choice and Argentine Tango should not be any earlier than say 1/4 final stage onwards,

And lastly for my two penny worth when I many years ago watched the US version they eliminated from the bottom 2 based on the viewer vote only - perhaps the BBC should try this ?

Tellmesomethinggirl · 04/10/2021 00:18

Just watched a recording of the results show and thought the right couple went. I thought Neil's choreography was awful and didn't show Nina to advantage. I don't think many women would look elegant dancing those steps tbh.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 04/10/2021 00:42

The Muppets theme tune does work as a quickstep at least (I've danced to it plenty of times) unlike the Simpsons which didn't work for... anything.

I'm sorry to see Nina go, I think she was unlucky having the tango as her second dance.

Sorry to see Nina go on week 1. I thought she would have been a great dancer. That tango was terrible though.

Poor Dianne always seems to get hit with the animated characters for movie week.

We've had Abu from Aladdin, Marge Simpson and now Miss Piggy.

SequinsandStiIettos · 04/10/2021 01:02

Janette = troll, pikachu, Juliet gnome
Dianne = monkey from Aladdin, Marge, Miss Piggy
Amy = tiger
Kev = minion, (cyberman)
Pash = Shrek, Bergen
Aljaz = Baloo
Nat = penguin
Brendan = Tramp (dog)

Many have had the short straw, it just appears that Janette and Dianne embrace it somewhat.
I think it was last year I said, I expected Janette to turn up as Sonic the hedgehog at some point (Where evil grows is a decent song, mind) or Rosita from Sing! (Gio missed a trick there).

MareofBeasttown · 04/10/2021 03:09

Gah! Nina absolutely did not deserve to go. She had so much sass and vigour. Scuppered by Neil's awful choreo plus that hideous dress. I honestly think Neil should be benched.

Kai is growing on me, despite looking 20 years older than he is. It's nice to see a throwback from the past alongside all the tattoos, greasy long hair and open shirts.

MissMarpleRocks · 04/10/2021 06:57

I’m another that’s not keen on Neil. Can’t put my finger on it but just not keen.

OverByYer · 04/10/2021 07:12

Agree @BeaLola I wondered why they have gone away from the format where they all did the same dance. Much fairer to judge if they all have the same dance.

SoupDragon · 04/10/2021 07:22

I don't think her exit can entirely be blamed on the choreography or the dress. She stomped through it and just didn't do it well. Lots of people have gone on out on a week where they got a "not their dance" to do.

SpindleWhirl · 04/10/2021 07:24

Because he looks like an estate agent.
Mogloveseggs · 04/10/2021 07:24

I am sad for nina.
Thought she did better than katie in the dance off who doesn't seem to have much time to practise she's said.

lollipoprainbow · 04/10/2021 07:32

I think it's Neil's ginger crew cut !

SoupDragon · 04/10/2021 07:36

Because he looks like an estate agent.

As does Kai TBH.

chillied · 04/10/2021 07:58

Neil gave Nina dreadful choreography that didn't show her to advantage. Rob and Dianne did a classy tango, if Nina had had something like that I think she would have done better.

Neil had a reputation as a good choreographer... but I saw no evidence of that this weekend.

ilovebrie8 · 04/10/2021 08:08

I’m sad Nina left she was great last week, I quite like Neil. Am less keen on Gorka I think he could be stroppy. Agree with the poster who said they should do same dances first few weeks as some are far trickier and it’s unlucky if they get a difficult dance early doors...

CaveMum · 04/10/2021 08:20

I vaguely recall Erin Boag doing a Rumba to a Bond Theme, might have been Licence To Kill which worked rather well.

Ramps did his A-MAZ-ING Argentine Tango to Goldeneye, so I really hope they’re not using that as it’s one of my favourite ever Strictly dances and I don’t want the memory tarnished!

CaveMum · 04/10/2021 09:18

Did some Googling! Yes Erin did a Rumba with Ricky Groves to License to Kill. I can’t find a video of it but my vague recollection is that whilst it wasn’t a “good” dance, the music worked well and it had the right kind of mood for a Rumba.

WeAreTheHeroes · 04/10/2021 09:46

I've just watched on catch up and think Nadia was robbed. She was clearly upset to go too. I thought she was better than Katie. It's always a gamble as to who is in the dance off in the early weeks, but even so.

One thing I'm pleased about is that without Bruno as a judge, Motsi seems to have both calmed down and upped her game with more constructive comments instead of shouting platitudes. Anton is also giving the judging some much-needed gravitas.

JacquelineCarlyle · 04/10/2021 09:48

Do you mean Nina? Nadia is still in with Dan?

SoupDragon · 04/10/2021 09:51

I keep wanting to call her Nadiya too.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 04/10/2021 09:53

Neil's hair is very short this series. I don't like men's hair when it's cut so short you can see their scalp. Still, Gorka's back to his natural colour, so swings and roundabouts.

I don't know what all the double breasted suits are about this year. Give the men a proper tail suit and some latin trousers each and spend the money saved on tight coloured trousers on some better bra cups for the girls!

Does Dianne volunteer for this nonsense and put forward cartoon theme ideas or do the producers have a Tess style "your little face" moment and decide that she is young and "wacky" and dump this rubbish on her? I know the pros get some input on music/themes so do we think she loved it or just puts a brave face on being saddled with it?
