Watched this tonight.

Still shocking all these years on, the catalogue of failures.

I found this program shocking. The residents were forming an association to complain about the poor quality of repairs/refurbishments long before the fire. Despite their involving their MP nothing was done.

I discussed this with a relative who is registered disabled and living in a tower block, floor 7. One example was where he got a letter stating that workpeople would call on XX day at X time to install his part of the new sprinkler system.

Workmen came without notice several days earlier and then complained that furnishings were not moved out of the way for them. They got pretty sheepish when he pointed out he was disabled and they were breaking the law by expecting him to do this. This is just one example or por practice and mis-communication.

My relative now opens the door only to scheduled appointments and deliveries. He has used the complaints procedure to document and complain about every messed up appointment, just as I would. He says he is nt bothered about appearing one of "those" tenants who knows his rights and complains as he is less likely to be taken advantage of.

@simitra did you see that the vulnerable list for Grenfell was 15 years out of date?

I am appalled that there was only one staircase for those getting out, plus many other things.

I also think that the order to evacuate should have been made as soon as it was realised that the fire was spreading beyond that flat.

TowandaForever · 14/09/2021 20:39

I didn't think the MP came over very well....

Hellocatshome · 14/09/2021 20:45

After watching this and some of the 9/11 documentaries on recently I am absolutely of the opinion if anything happened like that I would evacuate straight away regardless of the official advise, but thats the beauty of hindsight. Such an awful situation they found themselves in.

I found this completely shocking too. It made me so angry on their behalf. How dare the builders be so fucking shoddy? (The stuff about the gaps round the windows, and the fire getting in through those, as well as the awful cladding. Those building companies should pay. And for the poor souls who are living in unsellable flats because they also have flammable cladding on them. Kingspan ffs?! (I know they weren't the main one.) How bloody dare they. These building companies waltz away into the sunset unharmed to make their next million whilst those people's lives are destroyed.

Not just the builders either but the association, the out of date fire plan, the contempt it treated the residents with. Despicable. I am so angry on their behalf.
