Any other fans about? I love UC and rarely miss a match. Last night was brilliant. I won't say who won in case anyone else missed it and is planning to catch up, but I think we may have seen the series winners there. Have been waiting for this year's favourite team to appear. Nobody very memorable in previous weeks, but the team captain last night fits the bill.

PS I do think it's time for Jeremy Paxman to hand over to someone else to chair. No idea who, though.

I agree. I discovered my favourite team last night too.

Someone on Twitter said something like 'I swear [name] was a student when I was at the University of East Anglia in the early 70s' and I could see what he meant!

An evening of grey matter challenge, and the thrill of eventually getting a right answer.
Unlike most quiz shows these days, which are utterly depressing.

I identified the Egon Schiele painting! I was so chuffed

I think that was one of the (many) questions where I was still thinking 'What's the question?' and then somebody had answered and it was on to the next one. I love UC because the questions are HARD. More of this sort of thing!

UC and Only Connect are the two best quiz programmes on TV. I also like Round Britain Quiz and Brain of Britain on Radio 4.

I loathe Jeremy Paxmans sneering and glances to fourth wall. Bamber Gasgoine would always counter incorrect answers with balms like “you were possibly confusing with such and such?” Because he had a brain the size of a Planet plus was a nice, encouraging person.

Can Victoria Coren be new host?! I lurvve her.

Brain of Britain must be hardest quiz! I preen like bonkers if I get a few questions right!

I wasn’t around for the Bamber Gasgoine days but I watched an episode from the early 80s the other day and thought he came across as very nice and very, very clever.

It seems to have been a much faster paced game back then- anyone team member could answer the bonus questions so less unnecessary conferring, and the questions weren’t as convoluted and lengthy (although they were just as hard!)
