I'm disappointed they've changed it to be more like the aussie one

I’m delighted because the format is much more interesting. But the Australian version was much, much better done. This is car crash TV at its worst.

Benjispruce5 · 04/09/2021 08:44

Does anyone else not think it’s really dodgy to put two strangers in the bedroom at night and not provide 2 beds or rooms. It seems really off. One of the couple’s had 2 double beds and I thought that they’d done that on purpose but was just one hotel. It was only when Franky seemed to complain when Marylese said he was to sleep on the sofa. I just think it’s too intense and intimate especially if you get the wrong vibes. But then I guess the participants know what’s coming.

icelollycraving · 04/09/2021 09:13

@Benjispruce5

I don’t see a Daniel Craig resemblance in Franky at all.
Daniel Craig’s knackers perhaps.
Spysolation · 04/09/2021 09:44

😂
Really want Frankie’s ex wife to come on and dish the dirt on him. Bet she is in stitches watching him. His wedding speech Shock
Why did they just gloss over that?!
He has such a horrible cringey expat cadence to his speech, makes him sound so disingenuous.
Good on Marilyse for banishing him to the sofa.

Interesting... perhaps now is the time to admit I've never seen the aussie one! In what way is it different?
RozTheSchnoz · 04/09/2021 09:54

@SpanishFly

can we take a moment to appreciate the beauty and velvet voice of Paul C Brunson? Given that he's allegedly a highly regarded relationship guru with celebs in the US, this seems a controversial programme to get connected with. His reputation must be in tatters 😬
I follow him on Instagram and on the first night he hosted a live where he invited guests on to talk about the relationship lessons to take from the first episode. By the second day, he was on saying he wasn't going to do any more because people were far too focused on the drama and personalities than any lessons learned. He also said that he'd never had such a response - including personal abuse - to any show he'd been involved in 😢 I'd be amazed if he did another series in this new format ☹️
Benjispruce5 · 04/09/2021 10:01

@RubyFowler the Australian version is more glossy, more dramatic but also repetitive in the way American shows are. Constant recaps etc. The original MaFs U.K. was a real marriage and it followed the couples over months and they never met up with the other couples like they do in the Australian version with dinner parties and commitment ceremonies which I presume they will do this time.

icelollycraving · 04/09/2021 10:19

I love bingeing the Australian mafs. So much drama!
I liked the fact previously they actually got married. It felt more committed. These are just having an intense first date.

I’ve got a hideous cold today so I may binge watch some. I’ve never seen it before but this thread has inspired me.
TitsInAbsentia · 04/09/2021 12:02

I knew I had seen nikita on something (not your face, never seen that) but the true love true lies one. that just goes to show just how fame hungry some of these people are I guess.

Twitchynose · 04/09/2021 12:07

@thornrose Yet more evidence that it’s not a relationship experiment, just a fame seeking vehicle.
I think swapping from an actual marriage (although don’t know how they can legally do that nowadays as don’t you each have to give notice to marry and be interviewed individually prior to the marriage - vague recollections of trying to think whether my fiance would refer to himself as a business owner, name of his profession or as registrar suggested an entrepreneur, also recall him being very relieved that he remembered by date of birth correctly!) takes away the need to make it work, knowing that you can walk away from it with no consequences.
Wanky Franky, alarm bells were going off for me that he’s lived for so long in Dubai, with the culture towards women there. By the end of the episode I had a whole bunting full of red flags! Horrible bloke. I can only think that Maz is a sub in BDSM if she goes along with his views.

Thornrose · 04/09/2021 12:27

The "Fame Chase" is ruining potentially good shows. They should be vetted and not allowed on if they've been on other reality shows.

Still bloody good entertainment though and I will be watching avidly Grin

YourFinestPantaloons · 04/09/2021 13:49

Daniel Craig’s knackers perhaps.

😂😂😂😂

He's very Army! I'm a former Army wife and the way he spoke, the tone, the beliefs and the fitness obsession are IME pretty common with vets.

YourFinestPantaloons · 04/09/2021 13:50

Also can we talk about Mel Schilling's fringe when they're doing the matching? It's like she cut it herself with a knife and fork! Is it a fake fringe?

It looks like fake hair as well, like you'd get on a Girls World (remember those?!) Just bizarre. And then in another shot she had normal hair.
YourFinestPantaloons · 04/09/2021 13:52

@RubyFowler

I'm disappointed they've changed it to be more like the aussie one. I also had alarm bells (or klaxons) over ex army guy. Where he said he didn't like the way his ex wife had spoken to him. I bet she couldn't say anytime right poor woman.
Tenner says in about 5 episodes he won't like the way his new wife speaks to him when she says something completely innocuous like "Can you pick your dirty underwear up please"

I wondered if it was a wig and whether she had had chemo or something. Hopefully not.
chocolatesaltyballs22 · 04/09/2021 14:02

Inspired by JLo according to the Daily Fail

bonfireheart · 04/09/2021 14:06

Copying your "friends" hairstyle...

Egghead68 · 04/09/2021 14:09

Well I’m glad it’s a style choice not a cancer wig but it looks a bit odd.

YourFinestPantaloons · 04/09/2021 14:13

And it looks nothing like J-Lo's fringe

ElizabethTudor · 04/09/2021 14:18

It defo looks like a wig / fake fringe. There’s a line.

dayswithaY · 04/09/2021 14:26

Wait - are they legally married on this show or not? On the old format MAFS UK they definitely were married as I remember on the first series they explained that the show covered the cost of divorce.

Kind of pointless if they don't actually get married, it's just dressing up and pretending isn't it?

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 04/09/2021 14:28

Nope they're not legally married. Same as the Aus one I think.
