I don't usually watch but was interested to see the Pickfords one, as someone in the family just moved and I was helping them review their removal options.
The transformation of the MD of Pickfords worked well, but I am just not buying it. The whole disingenuous act that, gosh he had no idea that Pickfords staff were paid badly, their loyalty going unrecognised after decades of service, on 2 day jobs expected to sleep in the vans with a few thin blankets, etc etc. How he was so worried that they couldn't recruit staff and had no idea why! I call bullshit, as MD he should have known all about the terms and conditions of his workers' employment, and if he didn't make it his business to find out sharpish!
Being a good removals worker obviously involves some skill and care and yet it was said they would be paid more working in a warehouse. Obviously there must often be long hours too and travel, frequently necessitating being apart from their families. All for little more than minimum wage evidently. Amazingly , they can't get the staff!
I was quite surprised as always on house move threads people say how Pickfords charge their customers premium prices, and no doubt sell themselves as providing a superior, professional service. Well why don't they treat their workers like professionals then, and value them accordingly?
I expect the inflated prices just line their shareholders pockets. I think participating in this show was a massive own goal really. I'd certainly now think twice before using Pickfords.
