We have just watched it and I loved it all apart from the ending!!

Anyone else?

Yes. Loved it.

ShuddaBeenMe · 23/08/2021 09:48

Posted too soon. Yes the ending was disappointing. Should have had a better one.

Atalune · 23/08/2021 10:10

I felt like the initial premise we were thinking that the wife had died??

But then at the end she just come back to him? So weird

Really enjoyed it all - gutted Rachel went back to him. It won't last long though, she's clearly got the ick. No way back from that!

ShuddaBeenMe · 25/08/2021 19:43

It just said someone had died, not who

OnceUponAWhine · 25/08/2021 21:22

Ending was yawn and no more spoilers, but I thought the demise of one of the main characters was a shame- I liked them from the beginning and their passive aggressive ways🤣

Really enjoyed everything else about it though- the soundtrack was an extra character in itself.

Roundlampshade · 25/08/2021 23:31

Am loving it. Currently on episode 4 so..hmmmm… passive aggressive ways, heh?

Mooserp · 26/08/2021 09:55

I thought the ending was good. They all returned to their entitled ways, with the possible exception of the son.

I didn't think it was ever implied that the wife had died, he didn't seem like he was grieving in the first scene. I was trying to guess all the way through who was going to die.

Atalune · 26/08/2021 19:59

Yes you’re right it was never said who would die. But I was so sure- obviously picked it up wrong!

I loved e styling and the opening with that amazing wallpaper.

I loved it too. It was different to what I usually watch. I was disappointed with Jennifer Coolidge... I absolutley love her and she is usually hilarious, I understand it was the character, but seeing her in a serious role made it a bit weird.
What I got out of it was you can have money but it doesn’t always make you happy.

MiddleClassProblem · 27/08/2021 11:01

I didn’t love it. I enjoyed it and great acting but it was just a bit obvious with what the main message was through out and a bit one tracked minded. I didn’t find much “what happens next” intrigue other than who died. The ending felt muted and flat. I almost wish the death bit wasn’t there or there as the main key and they could have had a much better ending. I would have preferred a few more nuanced plots that led you to learn about privileged situations rather than all of them being set up from the off, iyswim. As someone who has been the other end of the pool (my username comes with a dose of irony), I felt a bit like it was just saying stuff we all know, no big revelations or seeing a different point of view.

I loved the characters though.

Stopyourhavering64 · 27/08/2021 11:28

I kept thinking of that Mumsnet classic of the bridezilla who was wanting to go to Maui ( where White Lotus was filmed) on honeymoon and wondering if this was hotel she was thinking of
Actually quite enjoyed the series and the black humour from some of the characters ( esp the manager!)

partystress · 27/08/2021 13:04

I loved everything about it until both wives were won over by their husbands’ machismo/ violence.

CFO woman’s turn around was possibly plausible given it was part of him coming to her aid, and maybe signalled an end to his passivity, but Rachel?! Not buying that at all and it made me wonder about whether actually the amazing style, the intriguing set up, and the fabulous Armonde had blinded me to quite a misogynistic set of storylines.

Mooserp · 27/08/2021 15:35

I didn't think Rachel went back to her husband because of his machismo, I felt it was after her speaking to the spa manager (Belinda?) she felt guilty for moaning when she has such a privileged life.

partystress · 27/08/2021 16:55

@Mooserp you might be right, but I thought she went back to her own room after that and so I think I saw the change of heart coming later.

Whatever, Shane was beyond awful and I was gutted that she didn’t LTB!

FFSFFSFFS · 27/08/2021 17:00

How incredibly selfish to put a spoiler like that in OP. That is really so shit of you.

Mooserp · 27/08/2021 17:28

To be fair, this is the thread for those that have watched it, there is another thread for those still watching.

Roundlampshade · 27/08/2021 23:52

Well, I’m on episode 5 and I still can’t work out who dies so I think you are over-reacting FFSFFSFFS ffs

Atalune · 28/08/2021 07:59

@FFSFFSFFS.

The title of my post stated “watched” not watching. The tense is significant. 🙄

OP posts:
Atalune · 28/08/2021 08:06

Oh I didn’t even state the ending in my original initial post. Again I did say “finished” (simple past tense) and not almost finished or near to finishing.

I think you owe me an apology. I am not “so selfish” or “so shit”. If English isn’t your first language then I can recommend the Oxford University Press for free good quality online English lessons.

I've finished it and enjoyed it. I also thought it was Pineapple Suite's wife who died as he seemed grumpy and was alone!

I think the actual reveal was a big lacklustre tbh.

I enjoyed it overall.

Thread should probably have SPOILERS in the title to easily distinguish between this and the other thread.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2021 18:46

I’ve been watching weekly but as 6 I’ve downloaded next weeks

Didn’t expect that person to die

And no comeuppance for the person who did it

JANetChick · 27/10/2021 00:28

Yes, I noted the lack of comeuppance (especially in light of what probably happened to the jewel thief) but I suppose the key scan evidence showed that Armand entered the room before Shane did, so the self defence thing applies.

I felt so sorry for Belinda. All that time spent on the business plan.

Rachel reminded me of Charlotte York in Sex & the City, who married someone wealthy, quit her job and sat on boards. Rachel will be having an affair with the gardener/tennis coach in no time!

Great acting, great styling.

Dadvdtret · 27/10/2021 00:48

The ending really annoyed me. Apart from the one person who got freedom.

Loved the manager character even though they were an arse!

Oblomov22 · 25/12/2022 22:32

Really disappointed in ending. Literally now can't work out what it's all about or who died.
