Absolutely fascinating. Apparently Wispa was launched only in Tyne & Wear as a test market, and was so immediately popular that fights broke out among retailers in cash and carrys. They had to stop production in order to re-think how to launch it in the face of a probable massive demand.

Yes I saw it.
Had no idea about the frenzy and had no idea about the intense competition.

I was also very surprised to hear of Thornton's Master Chocolatier, apparently, squashing Hotel Chocolat's truffles!

Would have liked a whole series just about chocolate.

My dad had a newsagent in the late 60's to mid 80s. Me
Memories.

Apologies for the random 'me.'
