Grey's anatomy - minimum age?

dd would like to watch GA. She's going into Y7 and nearly 12 (October). Dh and I are rewatching some of the early seasons but there are references to sex, which I don't think are appropriate yet. What age would you let your dc watch GA?

Mine started watching at the same age and loves it. She covered her eyes for any sex bits but there aren't many.

This might help ^
I'd say it's probably ok, there is reference to sex a fair and affairs, bit but there's never really any nudity from my memory.

Probably also depends how your DD is with sad storylines in shows? There's some quite upsetting stories, I've cried my way through all the series of Greys. It's a fantastic show though!

That should have said 'reference to sex a fair bit and affairs too'

Most of it is fine for that age but some of the story lines might not be - Izzy's descent towards her diagnosis is a bit odd tbh, for example. And something that winds me up about the show is they never follow up, there would be some huge plot and a patient who is about to sue the hospital etc but the next episode it's not mentioned. So it doesn't deal with the impacts of story lines very well.

However I am slightly obsessed and currently on season 8

My dd was 13. To be honest it is around the same as Friends.

I do not like the sex, infidelity themes, the general dishonesty and the lack of real life equivalent penalty. But, there are some cracking storylines if you suspend reality.

BusySittingDown · 29/07/2021 11:49

I don't let my 10 year old watch it but she watches Friends! I feel that there is way more sex in Grey's Anatomy, particularly in the early series but I'm only on series 11.

I'd probably let her in a couple of years as she'd absolutely love it. She'd love the drama and medical bits of it.

I watched far worse, far younger. But just be aware the first episode starts with a one night stand and one of the first episode is all about a patient who bit off her rapists penis 😬 In truth the only episode I wouldn't let her watch is the mass shooting episode, it's scarier and more heartbreaking than any horror film imo.

I was sobbing after that.

BusySittingDown · 30/07/2021 21:42

I've sobbed at almost every other episode! Blush I've never known a TV show make me so emotional. I used to be such a hard faced cow!!!

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/07/2021 21:47

No nudity?

First episode you are confronted with shepherds bare arse ..

I would say its probably about a 15..

Don't watch This Is Us on Amazon Prime then. I love Greys Anatomy but TIU knocks it out of the park for sobs.
BusySittingDown · 30/07/2021 21:52

Thanks for the warning! I was wondering whether to watch that one as it comes up on recommended.

I've got to the end of season 11 GA today - yep, was an absolute mess! DH (who hasn't watched it) was Hmm.

Nohomemadecandles · 30/07/2021 21:54

I'd say it's 15. The storylines are quite adult.

Starfleck · 30/07/2021 22:02

I think it depends on the child, personally I think the themes are quite adult and some quite upsetting, I would say a little bit older.

gogohm · 30/07/2021 22:03

I would say that's a bit young, so much of the dialogue is about relationships! There's lots of quite gruesome scenes too. Dd was about 15

SirenSays · 30/07/2021 22:05

I wouldn't mind nudity, I don't think the naked body is particularly scandalous but the stories surrounding sex are a bit 😳 Izzy having screaming orgasms with a ghost, Meredith crying during sex with George, Alex giving everyone syphilis..

Lillygolightly · 30/07/2021 22:20

My DD who is now 16 started watching Greys with me when she was 14. It was brilliant going back to the start and watching it all with her, she absolutely loves it!
