I don't think it's an excuse to blame trauma or insecurities as an excuse for treating other people badly. It would vindicate every cheating or abusive man who used his childhood traumas as to why he's a dick to his loved ones.

Faye bitched about Teddy behind his back to Millie BEFORE the post card. She had the option to trust him, and even if she didn't and picked Sam, she had the option to not sit and blame him for her terrible decision. She was incredibly nasty to him even when she realised it was just a game - instead of just staying quiet. It was quite revealing about how insecure people can make very toxic partners.
