Great British Sewing Bee - two burning questions

Chamomileteaplease · 28/07/2021 21:08

I have wondered these for ages - please help Smile.

1 Why do the contestants always wear the same clothes for both days? Surely they would be all sweaty from the day before? What is the point? I don't get it!

2 Does anyone know how they film it ie do they do it over several weekends? Does everyone go back to their families each week? It would be exhausting if they just stayed in London for two weeks sewing every day wouldn't it?!

Any answers gratefully received.

  1. Continuity. They can mix clips from various days to suit the drama/emotion/panic. If Jeff looked most tearful on Wednesday, but he broke his zip on Friday, they can splice the footage for maximum drama.
  1. Don't know Grin

  1. Continuity. Means they can use footage interchangeably between both days.

Need to redo an interview on day 2 about something that happened on day 1. No problem.

  1. Yes they go back and forwards normally. Not sure if that was the case on the recent series.
HeronLanyon · 28/07/2021 21:11

Deffo watching this thread as both are excellent qs and have struck me too. Need answers !

HeronLanyon · 28/07/2021 21:11

Oh! Quick answers. Ta all.

Hellocatshome · 28/07/2021 21:27

They all stayed together this year but normally they go back and forwards.

As others have said the clothes is for continuity.

Chamomileteaplease · 28/07/2021 21:38

thank you all.

I did wonder about continuity. I do think it's weird though that they can't manage to edit it well enough without mucking about with days!

Can I sneak on another question?

I came to the show late and was excited about watching lots of the old series but was horrified to find it wasn't Joe Lycett but Claudia W presenting for the first few series. Couldn't even bear to watch. Who do you prefer? I love dear Joe.

Because of covid they stayed in a bubble of sewers until all the rounds had been done, but usually it's done over weekends.

Hellocatshome · 28/07/2021 21:42

I liked them both the same really but Joe will always have a special place in my heart.

HouseOfGoldandBones · 28/07/2021 21:45

OP, there's a Facebook group for fans, and previous contestants have answered lots of questions before.
They're very insightful

Chamomileteaplease · 28/07/2021 21:45

@PineappleWilsonBubble of sewers?? Grin. I read that as sewers as in underground waste pipe!

OK so it sounds like in Covid times they do it all at once but usually it is over weekends?

Glad someone else appreciates Joe. Bless him!

Do they not do the same with the clothes on GBBO as well? Always thought it must stink in there with the heat in the tent.

ISeeTheLight · 28/07/2021 21:48

Don't join the official FB group though as admin are nutters.

CormoranStrike · 28/07/2021 21:48

Joe is amazing, my definite favourite

They launder the clothes between the days, I remember a GBBO contestant saying.
ImSoMagical · 28/07/2021 22:00

Team Joe here!

NautaOcts · 28/07/2021 22:02

Think the clothes thing is same as great British bake off

I must be in the minority then as I much preferred Claudia - sorry Joe!
He’s like an attention seeking toddler, sorry

I like both Claudia and Joe but I did find Joe a bit jarring at first and sometimes I do find they give him too much screen time its all hahaha very funny its a sewing show pick up a needle or move along please 😄 but I think the same about bake off and those stupid sandi and noel skits we GET IT sandi is SMALL move along 🙄

tentotwelve · 29/07/2021 16:03

I preferred Claudia. I don't dislike Joe but 'attention-seeking toddler' is how I find him too.

The tasks seemed more demanding in the early series.

As long as Patrick's in it I don't care though!

Chamomileteaplease · 29/07/2021 21:54

Interesting. Perhaps I will give Claudia a (very quick) chance Smile.

I prefer Claudia too and think Esme is really awkward and stilted.

I prefer Claudia too

Esme is great though, she just doesn't give a monkey's what anyone thinks of her and clearly had a great time in her youth.

HeronLanyon · 30/07/2021 08:28

Loved Claudia and surprised myself by also loving joe whose silliness does make me laugh. Esme is tremendous - love seeing an older expert woman on tv. Patrick is just great. Love the programme.

Chamomileteaplease · 30/07/2021 19:51

OK I take it all back. Have been having a wonderfully restful evening watching some of Series Two with Claudia and quite like her. I thought she would be too loud and a bit much but it turns out that I like her voice and manner Grin.

So thank you to those who liked her and made me want to give her a chance Smile.

I haven't got far with Facebook though, it either seems set to private or hard to fathom!
