Reclaiming Amy

Did anyone else see this?
I was a little sceptical at first, it seemed like her parents were just trying to absolve themselves from any blame but it turned into a really touching tribute from those that knew her and loved her best.

I felt the same

I thought it was great. Really brought her family & friends to the forefront, showing that she had love & support, really normalising Amy alongside her extraordinary talent.
Heartbreaking really, to bring Amy back down to earth with us in some ways, and simply to wish how things could have been different for her.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 24/07/2021 06:45

yes, odd comment from her mother.
programmes i have seen before did make me blame her father, as he said

AbsolutelyPatsy · 24/07/2021 10:18

apparently the previous film , which did seem to lay the blame at her father, caused him to have a nervous breakdown

rc22 · 24/07/2021 12:44

I sympathise with her dad but can't take to him at all. Thought her mum and stepdad seemed like really lovely people. Couldn't really imagine her mum and dad being a well suited couple somehow.

I found it really sad, especially the mother who's now so ill. I can't remember the film but I think it's on iplayer so I'll watch it again. Good to know that Amy had people in her life who really cared for her and supported her. Can't believe it's been 10 years since she died. What a talent she was!

Rosesmaybered · 24/07/2021 22:18

It was so lovely to hear from her friends. I felt so sad for the blonde one, sorry I can't remember her name, that Amy had a relationship with.
Maybe she was gay and couldn't come out and that was the black dog on her shoulder. It was heartbreaking when she said that in 10 years time she hoped she would have at least 2 children.

A very sad story

SergeiL · 25/07/2021 10:05

I watched it yesterday. Just so sad. Given the way she was with Blake, I don’t think she was gay. As they all seemed to say, she had mental health issues.

I felt exactly the same. Started off thinking it was some sort of therapy/PR exercise for her parents, but had totally changed my mind by the end.

I found it quite beautiful. It really felt like the people who loved her reflecting on this brilliant young woman who was such a big part of their lives, and then became so ill and died. It felt very intimate.

I agree that it was very touching and poignant.

It reminded me very much of the Caroline Flack documentary.
