ITV
(I don't know what channel)

Kathyis6incheshigh · 26/11/2007 20:13

I'm glad the programme isn't just about Fran but is addressing the wider problem.

Am so glad Trevor McDonut is doing this. It needs to get to a wider audience.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 26/11/2007 20:18

who was the man who was defending adoption? I missed his name.

"Should a mother have to break the law in order to say, 'I think I have been wronged'?"

very powerful quote from Denise thingy.

I am so pleased she is abroad.

Lets hope she and Molly have a long happy life far away from England.

sandybeach · 26/11/2007 20:29

That's what I thought too babieseverywhere. Thank God she is away from their reach before a massive miscarriage of justice.

It's no use them turning round in 1, 10 or 18 years time and saying 'sorry we got it wrong'.

Fran did the right thing for Molly and for her. Well done Fran.

jorange5 · 26/11/2007 20:30

'Wales This Week' is on over here in the valleys. I would really have liked to watch this.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 26/11/2007 20:31

Or rather, let's hope that the climate changes soon so Fran and Molly feel they can come safely

Wasn't that keen on the inclusion of the family from Glasgow in this programme tbh. I didn't really like the unasked question that I felt was being posed "This couple were given IVF despite being unemployed and on methadone. Why are social services letting them keep their baby and taking away Molly?" Not helpful imo.

yogimum · 26/11/2007 20:35

there was a case in the news at the weekend of a mother who gave her two year old methadone, he eventually died. SS did absolutely nothing. It just doesn't make sense.

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 20:35

Agreed Ladida- bit of extra controversy for no reason really, an entirely different agenda but the rest was good,as Kathy said not jusut the fran situation but the whole wider issue of enforced child adoptions.

Quite scary that Denise said she gets so many letters EVERY week about it yet the head of the SS said it was a very rare action

tribpot · 26/11/2007 20:41

Can I just say (haven't seen the prog) that the methadone thing can be a red herring. My dh takes it as a pain killer (I'm not joking, this is really true) - we have (fortunately) zero SS involvement in our lives. Being on methadone doesn't make you a bad parent, although I would question the set up when both parents are on it.

Obviously giving your two year old methadone is an entirely different matter We are extremely careful with the methadone in the house as we have no way of preventing ds seeing dh take pills (as per advice at the baby clinic) so he has to get used to it. But it is in a locked container and as ds gets older we will take more and more extreme measures to protect him from it, it's a terrible worry

sandybeach · 26/11/2007 20:45

I think it might be a case of the head of ss being completely out of touch with what's going on at the coal face. And the different stories of people being treated differently across the country are scary.

That poor woman who had to go to the court hearing while she was still in hospital and was made to leave her baby in hospital and the baby had been taken before she got back. No goodbye, nothing. That is just WRONG

Didn't someone on here say that even women prisoners are allowed to keep their babies for 6months...

Tortington · 26/11/2007 20:47

is this repeated?

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 20:52

Yes I did sandy.

Holloway has a mother & baby unit for inmates, one of only 4 or 5 in Britain as far as I know, certainly in the south.

Not sure custy but it might be on the ITV web-site?

denbury · 26/11/2007 20:57

glad fran has got out of this country. hope her and molly have a happy life where ever they lay there roots.
