The now boost con!

New customer to now. Went to carry on watching my current favourite via the streaming and had to update the app.

Ok fine, did that expecting maybe a glitch or two

Went to watch my show and...had to sit through a ton of ads

Again thinking it was a glitch I contacted customer services to be told this is normal from now on and if I want to watch ad free I need to pay an ADDITIONAL £5 per month - that's on top of the £9.99 subscription fee which is the most expensive in the Uk for streaming.

I wanted to alert other subscribers who may not be aware of this and also garner opinions on the move.

Personally I think it's a cheeky con! I won't be paying for the boost and am seriously considering cancelling altogether.

I mean what on Earth!

That would make total cost just for the entertainment packaged £14.99 a month

Customer service person said it was to raise funds for more content - including movies and sport - I'm not paying for movies and sport! Why should I have to pay indirectly for those when I can't even access them?!

Totally agree. At the same time they cut the standard number of simultaneous screens down from 2 to 1. So now only one person in the house can watch it as any one time AND put the price of the Boost up from £3pm to £5pm - which is the only way to increase the simultaneous screening allowance.

Sod that, I cancelled the passes and think I'll just look at switching between Netflix, Prime and ATV+ as it suits me.

BeQuietBrenda · 21/07/2021 13:53

Thats appalling.

I don't watch live tv anymore. I use the channel's apps and pay for Netflix and Prime (in considering paying for All 4 as I watch this the most and feel it's worth it for no ads).

I have Now broadband, got a month free Now TV with it. I really didn't like the user interface and could hardly find anything to watch that I wouldn't find on the other platforms. Decided to cancel the subscription immediately and didn't look back. I wouldn't recommend them based on that, but now I know they've thrown ads in and increased the prices - not a chance.

TiddleTaddleTat · 21/07/2021 13:54

I left Now tv when I stopped being able to pay for subscriptions with Tesco Clubcard vouchers. Some good stuff on there, but didn't seem worth the cost

Graphista · 21/07/2021 22:15

This thread fell off my "I'm on" so sorry I've not been back till now

I'm sucked into the rookie now and there are other shows I really want to see but I won't be paying for the boost it's a con

I am a recent subscriber. What I don't understand is the time limited series. One thing we wanted was to watch modern family, last 3 series not available on Netflix. But now I have s'thing like 12 days to watch them all!

Same with murder at the cottage. 8 days before it disappears. Why??

I don't mind the advert, for me it's 1 at the start and if I choose 'continue watching' I don't see another one.

KarlMaldensNose · 25/07/2021 14:23

Can’t believe this has popped up as I was just thinking same thing getting furious 🤬🤬🤬 about the McDonald’s and Persil ads before and during shows and am cancelling in November when my pass expires.
So greedy of Comcast
Constant badly timed ad breaks in the rookie - ruining it for me

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 25/07/2021 14:30

I got caught by the reduction in people being able to watch the same thing. Annoyed that they can change it during a subscription period.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 25/07/2021 14:34

The new app is shit and the introduction of ads is annoying. They are pushing their luck.

This happened to me with mare of Easttown ….but it then pops up again but to watch weekly lucky as I was upset missing the last two which I was holding out for as it was good and I didn’t want to watching all too quickly It’s worth checking They seem to do it with The Wire too.

Unfortunately they do have some good and exclusive content particularly on Sky Atlantic which is why they are getting away with it I think.

Yes, the general quality of their TV shows is really good. I'm happy to pay for Boost so I don't have to see adverts that ruin the flow of what I'm watching.

Have you tried installing this:
chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adguard-adblocker/bgnkhhnnamicmpeenaelnjfhikgbkllg?hl=en

KarlMaldensNose · 26/07/2021 17:50

Thanks @Orpheline
But that’s an ad blocker for websites and doesn’t work on a tv streaming app regrettably

It does for me. Have you actually tried it?
Letsnotargue · 27/07/2021 07:49

We’ve just cancelled our passes due to the reduction of simultaneous streams. We have a NowTV box and a stick upstairs. We used to be able to switch between them at will, but now there’s sometimes a 10 minute lag, and I have to unplug the stick which is a right pain.

They used to do 1 week passes for Sky Sports which they’ve now stopped.

You can activate passes as and when so if we see something we really want to watch we’ll activate a pass but I can see us not bothering. They’ve ruined what used to be a really good package.

MattDamon · 27/07/2021 07:59

It's bonkers. The streaming boom has shown that most of us are willing to pay a reasonable amount for good TV. But this is taking the piss and all it will do is push people back to torrenting/kodi-type services.

Exactly the same experience here. No way are we paying an extra £5/month for the second screen, and the introduction of adverts is nonsense! We have been customers for four years but cancelled our packages last month.
PuppyMonkey · 27/07/2021 08:25

Just to say I got caught out by the “one day left” thing with Mare of Eastown. I was all set to write a snotty email to Now because I was already half way through series before the notice popped up. But then the next day when the one day was supposed to be up, it was still on my Continue Watching option and I just clicked and carried on watching the rest of the series no problem. Confused

I gave up Now for a few months a while back then they emailed me offering me 2 months for £1. That’s nearly run out now but they’ve just offered it me for £2.99 a month for 6 months. Yay. I’ve not noticed any adverts either apart from the occasional one when I first switch on but that’s it, no others.

No way I’d be paying £9.99 for it, let alone £14.99.

HarrietOh · 04/08/2021 22:40

I’ve never paid full price for it, I always just go to cancel and they offer me some form of discount. On the rare occasion they don’t they then end up emailing one a few days later.
