This feels like the end of an era

Definitely. There seem to be lots of new names - of people only 20 ish or so. I did want Federer to win one last Wimbledon - he should have won in 2019, but he hasn't been playing as well as he used to.

It is the first time 20-time major champion Federer has lost a set to love at the All England Club.

What a sad result after so many years.

I agree . As one of the commentators said it feels like a bit of a changing of the guard

In a way , I am glad he lost today , rather than limp on . I am now pinning hopes on Denis Shapovalov - he looked impressive today .- Maybe more likely in the future perhaps rather than this year

Ahh, memories of the 2018 Delpo/ Rafa match.

it was one of the best matches ever.

I hope Delpo can come back- even briefly.

Wow, this match is so close.

It's not the best quality match, scrappy at times, it has to be said- so many errors (probably nerves) whoever wins will need to really up their game if they play Djok for example. But it's so close!

I'm glad Federer was beaten. I hope he retires now and doesn't keep coming back in the quest for another title. I've never understood people who continue when they're past their best. Venus was a prime example of that this year.

Grr just had to drop DH at the pub - at least I can watch tennis in peace now

I think it would be sad if that was Roger’s last match at Wimbledon - it does feel like a changing of the guard - but he is nearly 40, has had over a year out and a lot of the younger players have really upped their games

To a certain extent I think Rafa is in a similar position but I don’t want to think about him retiring - they can’t go on forever I suppose

Just seen a bit of Roger’s press conference - doesn’t sound like retirement is very imminent.

I have just spent half an hour with DD2 (who is nearly 7) trying to choose a new swimsuit. It's only going to get worse from here, isn't it.

We had the tennis on in the background and I thought it was still even, so imagine my surprise to see Matteo up 4-1!

I think the latter. Isn't he friends with Anna Wintour? She used to always watch him play.

I’m not sure if many people would want to buy his tennis gear Sun - the cardi didn’t really catch on
