Good news all round! John Finnemore is a fantastic writer for radio, but has done quite a bit of TV too.

Filming in various Scottish locations this summer, Neil Gaiman says. I am a Scot and I approve this decision.

David Tennant and Michael Sheen return.

Can't wait!

I've never watched it! But most of those ingredients sound good. JF + Scotland - two of my favourite things. I'll put S1 on my Watchlist.

I really enjoyed, MIDY! I've read the book several times, along with most of Terry Pratchett's other work and a fair amount of Neil Gaiman's. NG says he and Terry had in fact mapped out a sequel to Good Omens but never got round to writing it, so it will be part Pratchett, part Gaiman, as it should be.

I am so excited about this. John Finnemore is a genius so the sequel is safe in his and Neil's hands. I am sure they will do Terry proud.

My sentiments exactly!

The series was brilliant but can't help but think Amazon megabucks has more to do with a 2nd run than the plan to write another book, really hope they do it justice.

Pratchett & Gaiman were an awesome team but their magic together was made from two very separate genius styles.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/06/2021 08:41

Yes, I have some foreboding about this too, but if NG is being truthful the story was mapped out by the two of them. Fingers crossed!

I am so happy about this! I love JF's work, and I think his mind works in a very similar way to TP's. He's very clever, he loves words, he's very subtle. The last season of his radio sketch show included an aside that waited six episodes to pay off.

As to Gaiman doing it for the money - well, yes. But he also said that he was doing S1 to fulfil a promise to TP, and it was beautiful. So I'm happy to trust him on S2.

I'm torn. Good Omens was so good. Could a second series live up to that? I'll eagerly look forward to it though!

It's one of my favourite books (the book disintegrated long ago from re-readings) and I loved the TV series (and I normally HATE adaptations of books I liked) - if Gaiman is still involved, and the family of Pratchett are in favour (his daughter was very much so on Twitter) then I'll love more of it.

"Brilliant" news!

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 01/07/2021 08:53

Bumping just in case anyone hasn’t yet seen this news, which has not had the huge headlines it really deserves.

Kudos to NG, because in retrospect John Finnemore is such an obvious fit - his tone and skillset are a perfect match for GO, and he’s grown into such a world-class writer of plot, humour and character that Netflix should have snapped him up for a zillion dollar TV deal years ago, but it took Gaiman to realise these very obvious things.

Echoed on all counts, GERTI! (Another CP fan, I see, from the subtle clue in your name Grin.)

I’m only really posting to give new namechange a run out TBH - was reading JF’s blog/Twitter feed and was suddenly inspired to check whether anyone had bagsied it yet.

I am also the proud possessor of the name GolfEchoTangoRomeoIndia, which I changed to before thinking “something’s mot quite right there”.

Marking my place after the tip off on the "mystery celeb" thread Grin.

Love John Finnemore and, inevitably, have read every mention of this news that contains the word "brilliant" a la Arthur!

If anyone is in Scotland…

Season one really caught the flavour of the genius of the book. I really hope season two can at least approach that standard.

What a wonderful opportunity those traineeships would give.

I see the production is based in Bathgate. It can't be a coincidence that David Tennant grew up there.
