A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking, but we don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, which gets in the way of the drama. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Shows marked with an asterisk are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. View the categories below as best approximate & ask if you need guidance, eg about suitability for younger teens.

We are generally fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, language, film and music when the mood takes us. A few of us are learning Korean, Japanese and/or Mandarin (some more diligently than others admittedly), so we swap tips and links to language resources. Basically, anything topical goes.

We have a few frequently used acronyms:

FL/2FL = female lead/2nd female lead

ML/2ML = male lead/2nd male lead

We also abbreviate titles if they’re long, but explained or with an obvious abbreviation. Some favourite actors & actresses have been abbreviated for speed/efficiency, eg Park Min Young (PMY), Kim Jae Wook (KJW). Don’t be afraid to ask for help/clues if we’re not making sense or have descended into acronym soup.

I have a wild card plot development for the HP scrambler. I think Song-Hwa should choose the nice ER professor. He is lovely, understated and quietly outstanding. I think he’s a better fit for Song-Hwa than showoff Ik-Jun but the puddle scene makes me think I’ve gone way off beam. 😂

Although I do love Dr Bong and was delighted that he got a bit of spotlight time this week. My friend who has a Bong Thing feels he had much nicer glasses in season one though.

I’m clutching at straws, I know. I just find Jo Jung-Suk unbearably smug. This role seems to have been written to showcase the most annoying aspects of his personality. Am I alone in finding him quite punchable in HP? I want Song-Hwa to settle down with a lovely man who isn’t so me, me, me. I also think Ik-Jun is raising U-Ju to be an intolerable, cocky teen. Being his stepmother would be an absolute trial. Free Song-Hwa!!!

I also love Dr. Bong, but Song-hwa has to end up with Ik-jun. He's the light to her dark, the yin to her yang, the Ant to her Dec...

I do understand you hate him Boaty and, although I disagree, I absolutely understand why. But... HE GAVE HER A SCRUNCHY 20 YEARS AGO. They belong together.
And actually they do complement each other. He properly cares for her and slows to match her pace and his actions of care are meaningful not performative. She stops being such an earnest swot in his company.

I've spent too long watching KDrama because I'm now prepared to unconditionally accept that as she had an affair and didn't know her son had a peanut allergy the ex has no RIGHT to a side of the story 😂
