Woo hoo! Can't wait!

More excited about these threads restarting though than the actual programme!

Igotjelly · 22/06/2021 21:10

🙌🙌 can’t wait!!

DavidTheDog · 23/06/2021 09:44

Introducing Brad

Introducing Chloe

Introducing Aaron

Aaron's definition of "works with royalty" seems to be different to mine. And I'm sending a message out to Chloe's future 40 year old, don't worry, we all said stupid things when we were younger. Brad? Er, nothing really to say.

Checking in cannot wait for lots of reality tv drama!

Spaceman1 · 23/06/2021 16:17

Would you let your 13 almost 14 daughter watch LI?

DavidTheDog · 23/06/2021 17:01

There's a lot of variation at that age isn't there? I can imagine 13/14 year olds that I would let watch it, but I'd want to be watching too so that I can discuss some of the issues that arise.

I love Love Island! I can’t wait for the new series. It’s just the escapism I need right now. Everything on Netflix is about families on the run from Cartels, zombies, or brutal murder documentaries.

I want to watch hot young people pulling each other for vacuous chats and not knowing what Europe is.

ListenLinda · 23/06/2021 17:09

Jumping in, I also can’t wait :)

BrownEyedGirl80 · 23/06/2021 17:22

I cant wait either:)

Absolutely this!

@Spaceman1

Would you let your 13 almost 14 daughter watch LI?
I watched it with my 13 year old step-daughter in 2018. She was mature enough to understand it and we discussed some of the poorer behaviour (Adam's gaslighting of Rosie, for example). I think as long as you watch it together, you can pick up and discuss anything that's close to the bone.
Spaceman1 · 23/06/2021 21:32

@Zampa that's good advice, watching it together is probably the best idea and stressing that it is light hearted entertainment and not to be taken too seriously!

GrealishHairband · 23/06/2021 21:40

I watch with DD and have done for the last 3 series, so she was about that age when we started. Like a pp it opened up a lot of chat for us and raised some interesting points for discussion.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/06/2021 22:03

Once Dd was around 13 I let her watch whatever.
She was never into Love Island, but a huge Game of Thrones fan.

Walkashame · 24/06/2021 11:51

Signing in! I love a bit of LI escapism.

I like Whitmore...

DavidTheDog · 24/06/2021 16:15

Introducing Sharon

Introducing Hugo

Sharon's intelligent and assertive. Hugo's a teacher and inventor of what he likes to call the "half-night stand".

Another trailer

If you're watching this with your kids you could point out the difference in what the women and men are shown wearing.

OP posts:
riotlady · 24/06/2021 23:43

I like the look of Sharon, she seems vaguely normal and sensible?

Assume “Mr Hammond” isn’t planning on going back to teaching after this because he is going to get the piss taken out of him relentlessly

DavidTheDog · 25/06/2021 07:53

Introducing Shannon

Introducing Jake

Shannon's an ex-glamour model turned influencer. Jake is my favourite. Jake likes Hobnobs. I reckon Jake will win. DP is scathing of Jake's inability to wear a shirt.

Interesting article in The Guardian today. A cruelty-free Love Island? Impossible

The reality show struck gold by appealing to viewers’ worst instincts. Now it wants to protect contestants’ wellbeing. Can it do both?

OP posts:
jay55 · 25/06/2021 14:22

Jake sounds fun but I do not want to see him sucking anyone's toe.

Horehound · 25/06/2021 14:33

Just read first page of thread then went off to Twitter and see Laura's Twitter handle is "thewhitmore" wasn't Caroline known as "the flack" so Laura's just seems misplaced here and a bit copycat/wannabe.
I agree she takes herself too seriously. Doesn't want anyone to know private life stuff but invited Gogglebox into her home Hmm

DavidTheDog · 25/06/2021 15:25

I don't know anything about Laura Whitmore (beyond Gogglebox), so I'm not sure why she's attracting negative comments.

OP posts:
DavidTheDog · 25/06/2021 20:49

Introducing Faye

Faye is looking for a man who will "literally rip her a new arsehole".

Introducing Toby

Toby has commitment issues, likes casual sex with no "taking it to the next step". He gets accused of being a typical footballer, but he's a Nice Guy.

Sorry if anyone's mentioned this up thread.. but I'm so surprised a young PE teacher has signed up for this as it'll likely end his career surely?

I don't know if anyone else is on TikTok but it's been full of his teenage students (girls) all absolutely loving the fact that he told them he was going away to 'London' and they get to see him on Love Island..

ashmts · 25/06/2021 21:59

@covetingthepreciousthings Depends how he acts I suppose. Dr Alex went back to being, well, a doctor. Anna went back to work as a pharmacist during covid. They both have tough codes of conduct. That or he'll leave teaching for a while and make piles of money. The teenage girls on TikTok are embarrassing, the ones I've seen just seem to be daft dances over a caption like 'when your teacher is on love island', like it's not even clever or funny? Maybe I'm just old.

I used to like Laura Whitmore and was pleased when she got the gig but she's become very smug. Not a fan any more.
