Has anyone watched this on Netflix?
The acting is a bit hammy in parts, I think it was a Lifetime movie originally, but it's an amazing story.
I teared up at the end when they showed the real Lisa and what became of her.
She was an extraordinary young woman .

I’m feeling a bit crummy today so curled up on the sofa with Netflix. This was the first suggestion.

I skipped through most of the kidnapping scenes. Amazing young woman, scary how many times she was let down. I too welled up at the bit at the end.

The actor’s height in comparison to all of the male actors was a bit of a distraction though.

Cocolapew · 04/06/2021 18:51

She was absolutely tiny!

We loved this. So interesting. I nearly turned it off at the start though as I found the abduction bit so hard to watch especially as she looked so tiny and childlike. Dunno if that makes sense!

Cocolapew · 04/06/2021 19:49

I wasn't sure after about 20 minutes because it seemed to go on forever, and she did look like a small child. I suppose they wanted to include the bits where she was leaving fingerprints etc.
Her presence of mind was remarkable.
Do you think her mum had been abused with her grandmas knowledge too?

I started this yesterday and gave up after about 30 minutes, I couldn't get into it. Maybe I should give it another go

ShadierThanaPalmTree · 04/06/2021 19:53

I really enjoyed watching it, her story is so tragic and it's amazing what she has gone on to achieve.

tornadosequins · 04/06/2021 19:58

That man murdered at least 10 women. None of them deserved it or were worth any less as people because they were murdered instead of released.

Nuggetnugget · 04/06/2021 20:03

It was tragic and shocking that it was a true story. Thankfully that detective believed her. If she stayed at home she would have an awful life also the sister would have been sent to live with grandma and the horrible life passed onto her.

Cocolapew · 04/06/2021 20:03

Nobody has said that tornadosequins.

No one is saying that at all. Not sure where you got that from...!
Cocolapew · 04/06/2021 20:07

It said at the end of the film he was still on death row but he was killed by lethal injection in 2019.

I watched it yesterday and found it really interesting. Though the abduction was quite detailed, the evidence finding and catching him felt a bit rushed.

Burnt0utMum · 04/06/2021 21:07

The acting was a bit rubbish but the story was worth the watch. What an awful thing to go through.

Tradgarden · 04/06/2021 21:09

I’m watching this now and it is making me boil with rage. Had to skip the kidnap parts too.

DavidTheDog · 04/06/2021 21:23

Do you think her mum had been abused with her grandmas knowledge too?

I think we were certainly meant to think that, yes.

sherrystrull · 04/06/2021 22:11

I found it gripping. She is amazing and had such a tragic life. Amazing to see where she ended up.

She was seriously small though.

paniniswapx3 · 05/06/2021 19:47

Agree with all the comments - the acting wasn't great but given it was a true story, I saw past that. Her presence of mind was fantastic and loved that they showed her at the end. That made me cry - so happy that she had a good outcome and for the job she is doing.

TheVolturi · 05/06/2021 20:30

Watched this today and did cringe quite a lot for the first half, but then by the end I was in absolute tears. What an amazing girl she was, and so lovely to see how she has turned out!
Still makes me wonder why her let her go though, surely he knew this would be the end of him?

Nuggetnugget · 05/06/2021 20:32

He let her go as I feel he felt something for her. He didn't have the heart to do it. I was so sad the female officers were so poorly behaved and didn't believe her. The whole film was shocking. She was so lucky.

eatsleepread · 06/06/2021 07:01

I watched this last night and enjoyed it. Her presence of mind in an extremely stressful situation was extraordinary ... I can see how she ended up in the police force! It made me angry that nobody believed her, but people gave less of a shit about kids in general in the 80s. I did wonder if her height was somehow a trick of the camera, to make her seem even more small and vulnerable - it seemed a bit distorted at times!

Cocolapew · 06/06/2021 08:47

I loooked the actress up and it said she's 5'1".
The police man is 6"3' and Bobby Joe 6"5'.
Bobby Joe actor is Donald Sutherland's son.
She looks like the actress who plays Haley in Modern Family, she's very slight too.

It really does give more depth to the “tend and befriend” theory of survival.

eatsleepread · 06/06/2021 12:08

Absolutely, and that's what saved her life.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 06/06/2021 12:11

I tried to watch this last night but I felt a bit overwhelmed with it. I only got about ten minutes in but grandma’s boyfriend/ Lisa’s uncle (didn’t watch it long enough to find out who he was) really upset me. Knowing that it was only going to get worse for her was just too much!
I think it might have to be a lights on in the day watch. Haha
