Ballet Shoes is going to be on over christmas. Can't remember if it is BBC or on Sunday night. Has HERMIONE in it.

Oh don't know. Will be good I think. I'm looking forward to it v. much. I'm going to MAKE dd watch it with me, and ds's too if they're very lucky.

I can't think of anything else, but I'm sure there will be loads.

I know that the BBC have been filming a new version of Oliver Twist but I'm not sure when it is being shown. There's nothing specific on their website. It would be a good one for Christmas.

DS2 and DS3 are in it as extras (workhouse children - probably unrecognisable due to the dirt and grime, or then again......), but we never found out when they are going to broadcast it.

I thought the sunday night one would have been advertised or have started by now

Do you remember

The Phoenix and the carpet
Box of Delights
Magician's House
The Borrowers

I'm sure there were loads more

Oh & Shoebox Zoo

I'll look out for Oliver Freckle

I think they did an afternoon version of David Copperfield a very long time ago

That's what I thought

Bit of a shame - it was always a highlight of our Christmas

I've got the box of delights on dvd. get it out and watch it every year. The acting is class.

The Box of Delights is a Christmas tradition here. There's a fab thread on Outpost Gallifrey that does the whole experience in the 6 weeks before Christmas.

Time and tide and buttered eggs wait for no man...

its making me hum the theme tune just thinking about it

Which I also have on the full album by Victor Hely Hutchinson. I am a complete sad geek.

(I've got the two books by John Masefield and the BBC audio production, too, lol)

Does anyone know if the BBC will be doing the Christmas Lectures this year. Not sure if they have been done for the last few years - and I miss them. My son would love them.

lemonaid · 22/11/2007 11:40

Joekate -- haven't they been on Channel 4 the last few years? They've definitely been on somewhere, as I've seen them, and I have a vague feeling it wasn't the BBC.

lemonaid · 22/11/2007 11:42

Looked it up -- they are being televised on five, and have been for the last few years (hey, five... four... they are all numbers. At least I was close)

LedodgyDickinson · 22/11/2007 11:43

I was tmepted to buy the Box of Delights when I saw it in HMV at the weekend. I preferred the Children of Green Knowe though.

clumsymum · 22/11/2007 11:45

yes Christmas lectures have bee on in the last few years, but on Channel 5, and broadcast at silly times (lunchtime, or different time every day).

Shame on the BBC for dropping this years ago

lemonaid · 22/11/2007 11:49

Cranford seems to be the BBC Sunday evening drama this autumn/winter, but I suspect of limited interest to children.

clumsymum · 22/11/2007 12:03

No lemonaid. I think the OP meant something specifically for children, shown at teatime on a sunday

trixymalixy · 22/11/2007 14:56

The Box of Delights is a Christmas tradition in this house as well.
