If you were going away for a week and couldn't stream, what tv or movie box sets would you take?

As above, going away for a week with DH, DSs (20 and 19 ) and DSs GF (19), unable to stream, don't want to rely on tv as we don't normally watch normal tv. Just want something that we can watch in the evening as we'll be in most nights after dinner. Will play cards/board games sometimes as well.

Any ideas? Something with a broad appeal, we tend to watch stuff such as The Bridge, Fargo, GoT, The Wire etc.

Borgen, Shtisel, Mad Men, West Wing. Although for just a week I think it would be hard to get fully into a long series.

Thanks, we have Mad men and West Wing on DVD already and agree it will be hard to get into a series. I suppose if it was something on Netflix etc then we could carry on watching separately after the holiday (DS2 and GF live together separately from us). I think DH has seen Borgen and I've seen Shtisel (or started it anyway). Boys have seen the west Wing.

Really good ideas :)

Or maybe a movie box set? I suppose we could take some movies we've watched before, we don't mind that. Lord of the rings/the hobbit/james bond maybe?

Too hard to try to work out what you might want to watch in a few weeks time :)

I’m on holiday in caravan and only BBC1 is a good reception so had downloaded The Killing and Darkness those who kill, I have also just watched Blinded those who kill before I came here. All danish and on iPlayer

Thanks, no, it was series or movies but we won't be able to download and watch anything as that is all locked down so it will need to be dvds/bluray as we can connect one of those (apparently). A lot of the stuff on iplayer etc is on dvd as well though so whilst it feels like a waste of money, in actual terms of the cost of a holiday, and being entertainment for 5 people, it's not that much :)

We do watch a fair bit of foreign programmes (we prefer in original with subtitles rather than dubbed) so happy with those suggestions, thanks.

Just checking the ages of your DC before recommending this one, but as you’ve suggested GOT, a bit of nudity and violence is clearly ok, so Animal Kingdom on Prime! (The series not the film).

It has a bit of a feel of Sons of Anarchy meets Point Break, Ellen Barkin as matriarch of a crime family, lots of heists, plenty of drugs, sex and surfing too and some great characters. 3 series available and apparently a couple more in the pipeline.

Thanks, yes they are all adults and I've watched plenty of violence and sex with my own DC, I'm sure DSs girlfriend will be fine too, with all this lockdown stuff I feel I barely know her though they have been together 18 months, she seems lovely and I'm looking forward to getting to know her better.

Some great suggestions, a few we've watched so definitely on the right lines. Thanks again, I'm now away to look them up and see what I can get on DVD. Smile

Reading other peoples reviews, I think all streaming is out, we tried a Chromecast ourselves last time and it wouldn't work even setting a hotspot from my phone so not via their wifi. Someone commented that they'd been successful with a dvd player. There is definitely a HDMI port as I plugged the chromecast in on our last visit.

I just want to be sure that we'd definitely be able to access this time. There were a few films available to watch but not much that we fancied and only watched one.

Obviously you don't go on holiday to watch tv really but we aren't sure that the small bar on site will be open and everything else is a drive away so we'll probably just come home and chill out after dinner. I think there is also tv in all the bedrooms so at least one DS is taking another dvd for their room. We'll take cards and few board games as well. Now trying to suss out what GF eats and drinks so I can cater appropriately.

I don't have a fire stick so not sure if that would work or not? The DVD player we have is a "smart" dvd/bluray so not sure if we could maybe do some stuff with that?

Chernobyl. The BBC production of Les Misérables. Both good and miniseries so you could fit them in a holiday. Chernobyl is superb.

Lots of stuff for when we come back too!

Actually just inspired me to look at what we already have and I have all the Die Hards and rambo and blackadder, the office, scarface, star wars, indiana jones and many more , shelves stuffed with things we haven't watched for years, so maybe just pick a couple of suggestions from above to add to the collection and watch some of the ones that are on prime/netflix etc when we are finished our current stuff at home. Currently watching Boardwalk Empire and the Wire on a nightly rotation Grin

Me and DS are really enjoying Green Wing at the moment. Never watched when it came out As he never bloody slept so it's nice to watch it with him now.

Go to a charity shop or two and pick up a heap of DVDs for a very small amount. You can get a whole range of different films. Or things like various comedians in concert. You can choose then whilst you are there and donate them back afterwards.
Seriously, charity shops are inundated with DVDs.
Loads of people no longer use DVD players and are getting rid.
